Rear door seals

Featured Replies

How would I remove the bottom part of the rear door seal as in the picture?

Tried gently pulling it but it doesn't seem to want to come off.

You have to pull it upwards. I found this out on my 20 year old Fabia, when I noticed if I slammed the drivers front door the seal lifted on the handle end on its own. I just used silicone seal to hold the seal in place . The seal has an aluminium core. In your photo I can see corrosion of this inner metal which shows as bumps on the outside, just like mine.

I have just noticed you car is also 20 years old.

Thanks it has too small clips on the front edge of mine and the rest just pulls out. Lots more corrosion than I expected on the passenger door.

Wow still our cars are 20 years !! I havent had to do any metal bodywork, but the lacquer,is breaking through rear of theroof, and over the bonnet.I would think  repairing  would cost about twice the value of the car!

Top coat is peeling off in parts showing the grey primer, also looks like there is a small amount of surface rust under the bonnet and quite bad deterioration of the back box but nothing structural or particularly serious.

The primer, base coat and lacquer only cost me about £25 so I thought it worth repairing considering that everything else on the car with the exception of the seat works fine.

Its funny how the conversation has changed from

Is this covered by my warranty? to How do I clear the service light? to How do I fit a front mounted intercooler and lowering springs? to My headlights are going dull to my car has an intermittent start and finally it will be Bodywork issues...

Its great that this forum has captured the full story of the model from the start - Now that these cars are getting on a bit the cost of repairs are well in excess of the cars monitory value - This leads to very high cull rate..

I was on my way to collect a 1.4 diesel that was going for €100 .. She was good enough body wise but had an engine issue of unknown origin - The scrap men just came with a grab and put her on a lorry.. I wanted to cry - Another car lost. It breaks my heart

If the wee cars are kept an eye on and any rust/paint issues do surface then its easy to sort in the early stages. Its not a concours at Pebble Beach we are talking here - Its rubbing it down, sealing priming and painting with a rattle can .. This can be done quite reasonably and will make sure the car will last and give good service for a few more years.
