Direct line insurance ......theives!!!!!

Featured Replies

Just had my renewal notice from direct line (no mods)

Basic premium

Hehehe , cheeky gits (though not unheard of).

I've always checked my renewal premium online and it worked out as more than last year

noticed you mentioned "no mods" a few times.

i take it you don't use your one-click anymore?

If you save your online quote, they know, and are obliged to charge you same!

Ah the good old "new customers only" mentality. Interestingly, when I pointed out a discrepancy like this over the phone, the nice lady said there was nothing she could do and her advice was to close my existing policy and take out a new one online (with 10% new customer discount). As it was, I just moved to another company  Maybe they will value my loyalty, but I suspect not!

Hi had the same when i came to renew my policy with churchill (same company), the renewal they sent me was for about

Thought it was pretty common knowledge that renewals are more expensive than new policies? Insurance companies know that there are plenty of people out there who will just accept renewals without getting requotes/shopping around - new quotes are also there to attract new business, so will be that bit more competitive.

Think thieving is pushing it a bit far, that would be if they started taking money without asking - all they're doing is trying to get as much money as possible out of you to increase the profits of their business...

I guess the biggest question I ask is what happens if/when it comes to pay-out time. E.g. phone accessibility to insurer, speed of dealing with repair, competence in negotiation re blame, courtesy car, reliance on specific repairers who could be miles away, etc.

I guess that means word of mouth or broker recommendation - or just renewal if happy already. A few extra pounds is worth that comfort IMO.

A difference of several hundred pounds suggests a wider investigation into comparisons of what's on offer methinks.

I'm not sure why, but More Than were great value for the Mrs on the Laguna at last renewal but completely rubbish for me on the Fab vRS. Both drivers the same, both cars garaged, etc.

Common knowledge that renewals are more expensive than new business?

Brokers are meant to take that hassle away - do they?

When was the last time you spoke to a salesman and they boasted how many customers they had retained? ;) 'tis all about "churn"...

Rob.

Retained customers generate add-on business. Sadly the insurance business seems to operate on churn, instead. More work for the consumer, but more fool them. Strange how brokers are meant to do the legwork but always end up recommending the same insurer year after year ....

Same with mobile phone companies, utilities, etc. etc. AFAIK, it's mainly down to how easily the "new customer" figures can be used to indicate growth, even if financial figures don't meet target.

Brokers are going to be in it for what they can make too, if one company is offering a better commission then they're going to try harder to sell that offering rather than recommending a cheaper offering which will net them less.

Suspect this is why places like confused.com are so popular, as such services are a bit more impartial...

Rob.

Confused.com sucks, IMHO.

You're right though - next year another ring-round is on the cards.

How about this for wierd then.....did the same online direct line quote this morning and they are now quoting

That's the trick with Direct Line always renew by taking out a new policy general saves me about £100 a year over their renewal quote, and start getting quotes a month or two before your renewal is due as you can save them online and the're still valid, just in case the price rises or falls.

Was with Direct Line for 10 years. Had a big bust up - they wouldn't let me duplicate my NCD on a 2nd car - or even give an intraductory discount. They lost me through that. What irked is I was told had I been a lady - with 2 cars, they would have duplicated my NCD. Now no disrespect to lady drivers but why can't they do that for all drivers.

To make it worse still they are advertising that all named drivers earn NCD. I cannot drive 2 cars at once so wouldn't it be nice if they did duplicate NCD's.

Anyway went to More than, who were competitive on 2 cars. Come renewal - I had swapped both cars for one Fabia VRS - they wanted £595. This was for a 38 year old clean licence, 13 years NCD, driveway/garaged, lowest risk area.

Everyone else quoted between £365 & £469. All these smashed Furby VRS's must have been insured through More Than. Anyway Chris Knott (Briskoda) did mine for £309. Would strongly recomend people try them before renewal.

Was shopping for a insurance quote for a Octy vRS for me and the wife (28) and the first quote we had was for

Thats the way it is now - all these companies are interested in is "brand new customers only" anyway if it helps me save a few quid i supose its worth it - I always use this to find my insurance http://www.moneysupermarket.com/motor/

Confused.com sucks' date=' IMHO.
