Rain Droplets on Windscreen

Featured Replies

I've only had my car for a month but I've been noticing that a couple of hours after it has rained, the droplets stay on my windscreen. Whereas on other cars, it has pretty much dried up.

Why is that? I haven't used any products on my windshield other than the foam on a standard car wash.

Did the previous owner use Rain-X or something? And if so, how can I get rid of that?

I've attached two pictures for reference. First is of my car and you can see the rain droplets. And the second is of my dads car and you can see there's no droplets and the rain has pretty much dried up.

Anyone know the issue? Thanks

I've been having problems with streaks left by my windscreen wiper as well.

Made a post about that a week or so ago.

Not sure if it's related in any way

?

What do you wash your car with  something like Wash & Wax, or Hi-Wax Rinser?

?

Have you cleaned the screen yet with Vinegar or Glass Cleaner?

?

What Screen Wash is there used, and have you mixed with what was in the car when you got it?

If it was Rain X or similar you can drive in the rain and the water just clears off the screen when freshly done.

The likes of this on the screen can cause problems and needs removed.

1) I just take it to the car wash and get Wash & Wax done.

2) I've cleaned the screen with Halford Glass Cleaner recently, this was after I made the post about the streaks last week. But I've been noticing these droplets stay on for hours ever since I've got the car.

3) Not sure what screen wash was used. Whatever the previous owner had, I've still got that in. Not mixed anything.

It's definitely not freshly done as the rain doesn't clear off. But I'm thinking the previous owner may have used it a while back. I can't think of any other reasons why the droplets would stay. Plus when I look at every other car on my street, there screens have all pretty much dried up.

Looks like your Wash & Wax from the car wash means you need to be really cleaning your windscreen after using it.

I would try Vinegar if there is any in the house to cleanse the screen well.

Thing is, I know a few people that go to the same car wash including my dad and his isn't like that.

About the vinegar, how would I apply? And do I do anything once its applied or just leave it. And what about the smell? How long will that last for. Don't want the car stinking of vinegar every time I walk towards it haha

Are you serious about the smell of vinegar?   I would not bother then.

You wet a cloth with vinegar and wipe the window and it cleans it.

Or kitchen towel.  Just as you did surely with the Halfords Glass Cleaner.

Your Dads and others might not have what ever was used on your screen.

I would be getting the windscreen wash out that you have and fill with what you usually use so you know what is what.

It's the car wash, just clean the screen with glass cleaner.

He says he has, but if that was before the last wash and wax it needs doing again.

Last time I took it for a wash was a month ago. And just last week I used glass cleaner that I had bought from Halfords

I'll try the vinegar method tomorrow. See how it goes.

If Rain-X or something similar was applied by the previous owner, how long does it take for it wear off?

There's silicone getting onto the screen somehow, whether it's in your washer tank, on your wiper blades or from a car wash I have no idea. I really can't be bothered arguing about it.

Totally fine

Clear Screen / Rain X are not a problem.

My cars are sitting with it applied and refreshed regularly, new ones and old ones and summer or winter.

I was a car sprayer and i use the stuff in the picture to rinse cars,

then clean the glass of vehicles, but i use Meths so that it is handy and i can drink it if no Brasso is available.

If it's a wee outside car wash place their chrmicals can be quite strong and leave a lot of wax.

If you don't like vinegar use windolene (which has vinegar in it).

Car glass has a clear coating on it that might holding onto the water

There’s product of some description on your glass. Clean it as instructed and then add something like Soft 99 Glaco to seal the screen if your going to continue using the same wash place.
