current drainage

Featured Replies

Just had an unexpected week in Hospital, came home, the battery was nearly flat on my car, battery was new in may, I posssibly didn't use it much the week before i went In, charged it up OK alternator is charging at 14.5 volts, what is causing such a drop in the battery, apart from the alarm system what could be causing it, i've put a Solar charger on the dashboard, see if that helps.

1 - Alarm horn battery leakage over the PCB.

2. Aftermarket radio preventing canbus shutting down

3. Towing electrics relay.

4. Dashcam.

Std Radio fitted from new. no towbar or electrics, I alway unplug my dashcam, I don't have a clue except when you reconnect the battery after charging, it doesn't half flash when you connect the negative lead.

Thats normal but worth doing a current draw test anyway just in case its an alternator diode problem, that would normally discharge quicker though.

Check glove box light switch if it has not fallen out, basically check if glove box light goes off when glove box is closed. Mobile phone placed in the glove box with camera recording a video helps in case you have trouble viewing.

If glove box light stays on, that could be  your current drain, fix is to reseat the switch.

The glovebox light I have checked on my 63reg Roomster has no switch in the glovebox and the light stays on constantly until I lock the car with the remote. I have poked around to see if I can find a microswitch and I cannot find one and I have had the car since new. So to check, leave the glovebox lid open, step outside the car and lock using the remote and the light will extinguish.
