Who said strictly? I said it's explicity in the rules - and I've explained the reason being that it's to prevent this forum being turned into a "boy racer" forum where every post starts "my car beat x and he woz really trying, 'e woz", and everyone else going into lengthy hypothetical debates about power-to-weight ratios, gears, etc, etc.

The fact that this thread, and the others you mention, are still here shows it's *not* strictly enforced - but if the feeling is that these threads are becoming predominant then it will be.

It's not bullying - it called having opposing opinions. If everyone threw their toys out of the pram everytime someone disagrees or makes a disparaging comment, there would be no point in this forum existing.

I'd also contest the "ripping to shreds" comment - have a browse over at MLR...that's shred-ripping.

Was a general metaphor than a comment directed at you... ;)

So come on...sub 6-seconds out of a Fabia? "Slight engine tweak"? :rubchin:

Rob.

For my 2p worth, and Graham can elucidate if he feels appropriate, it doesn't mention any street racing. Comparative performance tests were mentioned, with each driver driving the others' cars. I can recall Briskoda meets where similar testing took place in the past ... ;)

Not getting into mods. as me and my wifes car is/are standard honest....

It was more of a thread to show that older cars can be fun and fast, whilst newer cars can be faster but nasty and along the way, my haven't diesels come on in the last 15 years.

I have been driving for nearly 30 years and I have never 'enjoyed' a car so much as my fabia, even my luxury/executive ones. and if somebody had told me I would prefer a crap Skoda to a well fettled Pug 1.9 gti, and a 'modern' performance supermini with tweaks even 12 months ago I would have s******ed.

It wasn't supposed to read as a 'race' thread, more of a light hearted comparison betwixt older and newer hot hatches, modified or not.

Anyway ,I don't drive fast. don't have a modified car, and I am a useless wheelster.:D

I couldn't agree more, I did my first long journey in my vRS Fabia last night/this morning to help a colleague at work who needed to be in Bradford to collect his new car. A round trip of some 600 miles(we were mis-directed a few times) duration 8 hours (with appropriate breaks) and I was extremely impressed with how well the car (and me) handled the journey, it was great fun.

And my... aren't the roads lovely and quiet at two in the morning. Oh yea! :D

personally i've found the same with my octavia :)

are the superbs nice and comfy over long distances too?
