Predictive Cruise Control Retrofit

Featured Replies

Yesterday I had someone remotely update my firmware and software to enable Predictive Cruise Control on my 2017 Kodiaq Edition (I already retrofitted Adaptive Cruise Control a few months ago). I only have MIB2 and I thought this might be a problem, but apparently it wasn't - everything is working great.

The guy who did it was VagRetrofit - https://www.instagram.com/vagretrofit

He said he had to write custom software for me because my camera was not compatible - I waited two weeks for him to do this. He also had to flash the camera via ODIS, which took a while. He charged 200 euro.

I think this procedure is becoming more common now that the MY21 models are out on the street, with pACC. Kufatec also offer this as a retrofit now, but it's prohibitively expensive, because they need you to install their own radar (with their own custom firmware, I suppose). I'm sure others will offer it too - I just contacted this particular guy because @mrdoc91 had mentioned him on here a while back and gave him a good review.

In terms of the value of pACC itself - I'm not convinced yet. It's definitely not a must-have feature like I consider ACC to be. And if you're one of the people who already dislikes ACC, you'll really HATE pACC :-)

I also appreciate that those of you whose cars are still in warranty are unlikely to want to attempt this - I'm just posting on here in case anyone with an older model like me is interested.

Next retrofit will have to be virtual cockpit - I'm running out of room on the maxidot

I apologise for the double posting - I can't seem to edit my original post.

The guy who did this work for me asked me to clarify that the price I paid was a promo, as this was the first Kodiaq that he had done. The normal price for this service will likely be higher. He did tell me that at the outset to be fair, so I'm sorry I didn't mention that in my post. If you're interested, I suggest getting in touch with him and sending a VCDS autoscan, so that he can see how much work will be involved for your particular car.

It's probably worth saying again that there are likely others offering this service, so some 'shopping around' may be possible.

Thanks Tier,

I have a 2020 Model with ACC and am definitely interested in it. Wanted to know what all do you need to get it updated, did you have to buy any OBD11 kit in addition to paying the fees ?  With the PACC, does it increase and decrease the speed of the vehicle based on the speed signs automatically or do we have to set the speed manually as we do in ACC ? Would appreciate if you can provide more info on the functionality of this feature.

Yes, you need a VAS5054a dongle - I bought a clone online. You need to connect the dongle via USB to a windows laptop, with Teamviewer and Flexihub apps installed. Do not get a VAS6154.

In terms of functionality, you just get two extra options in the ACC settings menu (see photo in my original post). One setting allows the car to adjust the maximum speed in ACC based on the current speed limit. If you activate this, then the maximum speed in ACC will automatically adjust up or down as the speed limit changes. The other setting will allow the car to temporarily reduce the speed in response to the road layout (e.g, a bend), before accelerating back up to the speed limit (or to the speed you have manually set in ACC).

At the moment I am not using the speed limit setting. There are a few places on my commute where the system sees slower speed signs on exit ramps, and incorrectly uses this slower speed. Very annoying, and potentially dangerous (my car tried to suddenly slow from 50 to 30mph on a dual-carriageway in heavy traffic).

Hihi, do you remember the part number of your A5 camera? As I have one at home for the new car but just need to confirm in case I need a newer one. Thanks 😊

I retrofitted pACC too (not just by myself) and you need 3Q0 front camera and ACC radar 5Q0 with index G/H or better 3QF radar. Also some 2Q0 radars should work (not sure about which one specifically)

I have front camera:
SW: 3QD 980 654 A, version 1611

HW: 3Q0 980 654 A, H12

ACC Radar:

SW: 5Q0 907 572 R, version 0771

HW: 3QF 907 572 A, H11 (Written on the radar itself is 3QF 970 561 D)

Added extra info

Thanks :) I have 3Q0 980 654 H camera at home. Should be grand for pACC. Will be making the call when I’m done in work, see if I can do a buy 🤩

That is HW or SW?

HW 3Q0 980 654 without index or with index A (H06+) can also work with Traffic Jam Assist after proper parametrization.

Sounds like you're all set - good luck! I've found pACC to be very poor around London. It keeps picking up badly placed signs on sliproads while I'm driving on the dual carriageway, and then braking from 50+ down to 30 in heavy traffic. The mapping data is also rubbish. For example, if I'm driving on a flyover that goes over a junction, the car behaves as if I'm approaching the junction - and again tries to brake hard. None of this is really the car's fault, but it does mean that I no longer use pACC on my commute.

I can’t remember. I’ll have to check it in the box when I get home.
