once again her fabia wasnt going into gear. i thought no problem ill tighten the nut like ive done before , only this time the threaded part snapped off.

 

the shift rod is around 185 pound. + labour costs

 

2 garages seem to think it can be drilled and a stud put in

 

another didnt mention puting a stud in and possibly getting a used gearbox 

 

is it salvageable ?

 

It's hardened steel which is why it snapped, a simple blob of weld should keep you on the road quickly and cheaply.

Do you mean weld the the mechanism onto what's left of the threaded bit?

Yup.
