Just removed the std front door speakers, removed the white foam cup thing and there is no plastic behind it!!!! however, on the speakers there are 2 VAG plugs, both have 1 blue/white and 1 brown/white wires in each of them, so 4 in total, what do i do for fitting them to the ones on my new speakers which is only 2 wires?

Im currently searching the site, but so far ive been told you can push wires into the std plugs and this works, ie, positive on one plug and neg on the other plug?, ive also read that you cut off the std plugs and put the 2 blues together with the 2 browns? which goes against the other post? plus its red on passenger side?

Any ideas please!!!!

Cheers

done some more reading and just found this aswell >

"One pair powers the driver, one carries a signal up to the tweeters, and of each of these there is a + and a -.

So, if you want to use your existing tweeters, I believe you just need to "short" across each one, so you have a single + and a single -. Whether you do this by chopping the block off or not is up to how much reversibility you want.

If you're disabling the front tweeters, you don't need to worry about the second set, and just connect up the first - again, whether you cut the block or just poke wire into them is up to you...

As to which connector is which...the + and - are marked on the plug, IIRC, and the best way of telling which powers the tweeter is to plug them both on, then disconnect one set and see if the tweeters still work..."

bascially, does this mean that one side of the plug is the speaker, and one side is the tweeter, and if you want to use both you need to combine the positives from both, and neg from both?

If so, i take it blue is positive on the drivers site, and red on passenger side?

problem solved, cut off the connectors, and put blue together and brown together, works a treat!!!! passenger side next :)

ok next problem

Is blue positive or negative on drivers side???

I have wired it up as blue positive as i read this somewhere on here, and red is positive on the passenger side, however ive just noticed that the positive symbol on the standard connect block is for the brown and red on the passenger side and the brown and white drivers side????

Have i wired this the wrong way round, as it works which ever way round you do it???? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just found this

"Just finished installing my Infinty 652i's and at first I was confused as to what polarity the wires were. There are NO markings on the stock speakers so I performed a simple 9v battery test on the stock speakers:

When the cone pushes outward, whichever tab the positive of the battery is connected to is the positive speaker terminal.

Therefore armed with this info I could establish that:

Drivers side:

BLUE/WHITE = +

BROWN/WHITE = -

Passenger side:

RED = +

BROWN/RED = -

I think someone earlier in this post has connected their speakers assuming brown was positive - This means you are out of phase!!!

Hope this helps

Dave

BTW the Infinity's sound very nice!!!"

answers my question, funny i did all this research before i started, but left it on my friends computer!!! der, so was going from memory, which by reading the above, my memory is ****!! hehe

Just goes to show you can find all the answers by SEARCHING..... :)

update, front speakers in, wires as above, fitted like a dream :) and sound much better now, more bass to as there is no longer anthing behind the speakers, there was some white foam stuff, but took that out, no plastic behind it!!! so hope its ok in the rain, if not will put something in there!.

Also left the standard front tweeters connected, just sounds a little bit better i think, but disconnected the rears, much better :)

Overall, happy with the job, just wish i could have fitted the rears, still, will have to get those bloody star shaped bolts off, then will change them over :)

Love the way you've got a whole thread helping yourself!

Gonna bookmark this though, should help when I get round to it. Cheers.

Rather than remove the whole foam thing behind the speakers a better idea would have been to have cutout a section of the bottom, that way water from above cannot drip onto the speaker cone and you still get the benefit of opening up the space into the door.

thought that once finished, i will see how it goes, heavy rain today, and if its wet, will take them out and put some plastic is to help prevent this.

Out of interest, when you have the speaker out you can see the inside of the door skin and a silver bar, which i think is something to do with the windows. When the window is down does it go that far, as what im thinking is putting plastic from the just above the speaker (where there is still plastic) and attach it to the door, kind of a cover over the top of the rear of the speaker, if you know what i mean?

I dont think the window comes down that far, I know some members have cut a piece out of that bar to get speakers with larger magnets to fit into the door.

cool, today is the first time i have really listened to it properly, and the sound seems to come from the front right only, before i could hear the sound from all around the car, now its only drivers front, will have a play later and see if i can sort it?? will try reconnecting the rear tweeters aswell.....
