Steering wheel change button functions?

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

does anyone have experiences with coding of steering wheel buttons?

We bought the new steering wheel from Octavia IV and there is no ESC/CANCEL button like was on MK3 steering wheel, which means, that we are not able to change from TELEPHONE, AUDIO, etc.. in instruments and if the car has virtual cockpit, there is no option to change the view, because there is no VIEW button.

I know, that standard coding via VCDS, ODIS is not possible. The communication from the buttons to the car is via LIN, which means, that I "just" need to send different LIN signal with the press of the button.

Does anyone know, how to change the button function?

My friend can create a unit for me, to translate the LIN from button to whatever button I want. Example: Press Travel Assist button - UNIT translated the button function - car will see VIEW button was pressed. This option is more complicated, that's why I wanted to ask, if there is any other option.

Thanks! :)

I don't think buttons can be recoded to change their function.

If I remember correctly, changing the resistor values on the PCB might change the function? At least I'm sure I once saw someone converting some MK2 FL Octavia buttons from 'Aux' to 'Phone' by tweaking the resistors :)

I was thinking, that somehow, like people are using VCP to enable video in motion, that maybe there is an option to do something like that with buttons.

As far as I know, there is only option to reconfigure the chip in right buttons, but I have no idea how.  :worried:
