Hi guys cant get my car to start well it starts but then says immobilizer active on the dash

changed the key battery no joy I have a code reader can it be turned off from there?

 

any advice please as car wont start

It may be the key transponder reader in the ignition or associated wiring that's failing.

 

Try banging the area around the ignition to see if you can get a bad connection to work, perhaps even adjusting the steering wheel height may help move something.  If it does work consider it a get you home remedy and have it fixed properly.

@sealover1 Do you have only one key fob???

If you have two then try the other one to see if that works.

If trying a non fob key then this is correct as these do not contain an immobiliser chip. Car will start iirc, but soon cut out.

 

We have to assume this is a new issue with a key fob that you have been using for a while, yes????????

thanks guys I went out this morning and it works fine again, bloody car seems to do this alot last time all the dash stopped working then started working again few hours later

If you are the member who had lots of starting issues a few months ago and had the ECU checked/auto electrician look at things I'd say you probably have an undiagnosed fault on 13 year old wires.

yea that was me MicMac but its going to have to wait now I only just put all new shocks in new brakes new steering rack and the cash flow is servery dented right now and I dont drive much even less so at the moment so going to keep my fingers crossed right now as I just dont have the cash to have it rewired, god only knows how much that would cost   

It should be fairly straight forward if everything does work albeit not every time.

 

Diagnostics combined with relevant wire continuity checks while wiggling, possibly heat/cold application and visual inspection.

oh I thought they would all have to be changed I really like my skoda be it a bit old I spent a lot on it new cam and followers/belt,brakes all around,steering rack and a few other odds and ends, but saying that I got her 2 years ago for £1500 with a full service history so that was really cheap and gave me space for repairs, but you never know do you, I plan on keeping her for some years so will try and look after it

Probably just a loose wire somewhere, earth wire or the like..... (time for someone to laugh at me now, Lol).

 

Have you checked the battery terminals and connections are clean and tight. I'm sure you have already.

yea I have given it a new battery as well, trouble is with the wiring is that things keep on happening i mean all different things so it wont be just 1 loose wire, anyways I love my skoda and keeping her going no matter what

guess what 2 years working fine then got the same problem again.

have searched internet then come across a thread saying bash it on the dash and by the key.

just asked my mate who knows his stuff he has a guy that knows the cars he said this

my tech guy says, and i kid you not, "try slapping the dash on top and the bit by the key". dodgy connections are common!

Hi! Did you get the problem fixed? I have the same problem. I suspected the wiring to the immobilizer coil, but lately the error is gone if I just waits for a while.

believe it or not I bought a new battery and charge it every few months and all the problems went away, been told the low battery is a common fault on these cars

Thanks🙂 Maybe the signal strength from the RFID-chip is marginal if the battery voltage is a bit low? Great tip!

I really dont know mate all I know is that since the new battery 2 years ago I've not had 1 warning light
