Car insurance in lockdown

Featured Replies

There has been a lot of publicity re insurance not being valid if you are using your car for what is deemed to be non essential use. LV's website seems to indicate that claims can be made as usual but there is no mention of this particular point. Has anybody actually contacted their insurer on this?

I've heard no such publicity?

Lots of maybe this, maybe that.

Exactly, that's why I'm asking.

You could contact your insurance company and then let us know what they say.

Surely they would have to issue amended policies with exclusions if they wanted to do this?

I would have thought so if it is a change of contract. And who is to say what is essential travel? You can travel to work, you can travel for food shopping, travel to see a child....

Best people like those commenting in the media read there insurance policy T&C's and exclusions.

I see nothing about 'Essential Use' only.  Stuff on Motorsport, Track Use, Off Road Areas.

Spoke to LV, they stated that cover will continue regardless of whether the trip is deemed essential or non essential by the police. He made a point of giving his name, time of call and the fact that the call was recorded.

After discussing a minor bump on my wife’s car a few days ago, I asked for a refund due to lower than expected miles.

Certainly sir, here’s £15”.

Same company, 2 policies- so how much refund for my semi-idle Bear?

Certainly sir, here’s another £20”.

You know they were never gonna call me.
