Anyone know any good Skoda Importers

Featured Replies

As the thread says does anyone know of any people who can import Skodas in to the UK from Europe in Right Hand drive form

Given the discounts available from brokers who can supply UK dealer-sourced Skodas, I wouldn't have thought there was much of a market for European-sourced RHD cars. Some people who have gone that route ordering other makes have lost all their money recently in some well-publicised 'failures' (ie scams) and a fair amount of risk is involved. Skodas imported from Eire might be the exception, but the spec is lower than comparable models from UK dealers. Additionally, there is no 3rd year Skoda UK warranty, nor AA Assistance, for imported cars.

What's the point?

Euro imports rarely have the full UK spec, shorter warranty, and dealers can be "awkward" about servicing.

Go to a UK broker, you'll get a better deal in the long run :)

Stuart,

If you are after a car that is not available in the UK but with RHD all the same, you don't have a chance in hell, I'm afraid.

I know you are lusting for a 4x4 L&K PD130, and indeed such a car is available on the continent, in both hatchback and estate versions. Its Dutch base prices - so net price without the Dutch VAT and luxury tax, but also excluding UK import taxes (and VAT?) - are

BTW, Euro warranty is two years as well now - the minimum period required by the EU.

UK warranty has a 3rd year, up to 60,000 miles ;)

No wonder Skoda UK won't dare to warrant your performance mods.

Consider the risks!

I guess you may well be right but its worth a try. I know of several other people thinking the same way so it might be worth suggesting a group buy but in all seriousness this will be equally unlikely as you would probably need several hundred cars before Skoda would consider it.

As another "clutching at straws" exercise do Skoda export to any other Right Hand Drive countries where different specs might be available, Japan, Australia etc. Then could a dealer obtain one of these spec cars

New Zealand for one, I believe. Or you could always import one from India - although the spec is probably a bit basic and they only come with a one year warranty. Oh, and the engine almost certainly will not meet our emission regulations.

Why not buy an LHD one, you can import it and register it in the UK just as you can a RHD one. You only need to fit uk headlights.

I drove a LHD car here for 18 months and the insurance increase was non existant a few years ago.

And it's great fun driving a LHD car in Britain! :D

Not for the rest of us over here in our RHD cars, it isn't! eek.gif

If you want a left hooker you are probably best to buy & register it in say Germany or wherever gives the best deal & then drive it in the UK on foreign plates for 12 months as dear Uncle Plod has no agreement with other Euro countries so when he takes a snap of you speeding he wont know who you are, now is that a scheme or what. Ive had no probs driving a R.H. drive on the continent.

I disagree with much of what has been said about imports. I bought my Fabia from Motorpoint, who source RHD cars from Ireland. Mine is a saloon in Comfort trim, which is not even available in the UK. I got a few more add-ons, that the UK saloon doesn't have: onboord computer thingy, front fog lights, painted wing mirrors and a nice Blaupunkt stereo. The engine is 8v instead of 16v, but as I don't use the car very much (2.5k miles per year) I have no need for the extra power.

My local Skoda dealer is happy to service - it's income at the end of the day.

The other downside to importing is on residual value. The car is worth much less second hand if it's an import.

Malta and Cyprus are common sources of RHD imports.

Not EU so warranty is 1yr.

My Malta supplied import came with a warranty certificate stating "Skoda Auto has extended the warranty coverage for Skoda New Vehicles, Skoda Genuine Parts and Skoda Original Accessories to 2 years". In addition, it states that "the information in this supplement takes preference over the information in the 'Owner's Manual' and 'Service Schedule'".

I thought it was the case that there was a worldwide 2 year warranty as from November 2001 when it was introduced in CS prior to the legal requirement there being 2 years as from January 2003 (IIRC)?

It also came supplied with a CE type approval certificate, not that it would've bothered me as I was buying it from a company who had imported it for resale so if it couldn't get registered without it would've been a lost sale for them!
