Rolling Road comparison (Marlin vs Interpro)

Featured Replies

I have had a very interesting weekend.

I attended two rolling road sessions, the first on the 29/04/06 at Marlin Engineering in MK and the second on the 30/04/06 at Interpro in Thornbury. Both events were well run and well subscribed to by a really nice bunch of guys, I have met a lot of really nice people in the last two days and I thanks you all for that. Both crews at the venues were professional and knowledgeable and I would have no problem in recommending either place to anyone.

The compliment was one reason for starting this thread, the second was to show you a comparison between the two setups/results as one thing I did hear over the two days was how rolling road results differ especially when the rollers are owned by the company who does your tuning ;)

Here are the rollers at Marlin, modeling here is a certain Black Fabia that I happen to own ;)

And here are the rollers at Interpro with the same Black VRS

The venues themselves seemed very different. Marlin seemed to be more service based into diagnostics, repairs and MOTs whereas Interpro had enough sorted rally kit around to make a schoolboy weep. The approach of the crews echoed this too. Both venues had different setups. Marlin used a Maha LPS 3000 which appeared to be a top of the line and upto date piece of kit with 4x4 capability, this mesured using the engine RPM. Interpro used a Sun unit (No model) which seemed to be considerably older and mesured using the road speed. The results are as follows;

Not a lot in it. Infact the consistancy is astounding. The only difference between the headline figures is a slightly higher torque at Interpro (The only change to the car was that I washed my Green filter when I got back from Marlin) but there really isn't much in it. So I have had my car's output verified at two very different locations which must be good news. The two venues in question are both independent establishments so there is no bias to the results although I reckon a blast at AMD in the next few days would really prove something  Shame it's not going to happen :(

Here are the graphs although one is in Bhp vs RPM and the other is in BHP vs Road Speed and as I didn't have the data from the Interpro graph to convert it it will be difficult to comapre them

Another interest comparison is between My Fabia and Jonny5's, both OneClicked and both have the cupra intake and the only differences are I have a green filter and more stickers whereas and Jonny has a standard filter. (There is a copy of the graph that had both curves overlayed somewhere but it's not in my possesion), Mine got 171bhp, Johnny got 161bhp proving indeed that the Green filter is worth something when remapped and a Skoda Motorsport sticker is worth a bit too

Interesting post...

Shame I couldn't come, wonder what my one-clicked vRS would have got?

If a motorsport sticker is worth 10bhp I must get one............It should put mine well over 200 bhp....:shhh:

seriously though, a good comparison, although I cant see a green filter making 10 bhp difference.

Maybe yours has fresher oil. or better tyres?

Interesting comparison

Good comparison, sometimes it pays to go somewhere independant that doesnt normally deal with tuning VAG cars and therefore will not try and sell you something.

Are Interpro any good with cars running shed loads of power at 4800rpm. :D

They had no issues with slip at all, they also strapped the cars down by the suspension which seemed far more stable IMO

but did they have a car runing approx. 15.7 gazillion bhp?

I think there was an LCR running about 240bhp, but a lot of them were well short of what they expected. There was also a "300bhp" race preped ICR there for a short time but it didn't go on.

ICR???

do you mean a leon?
