Wavering Idle

Featured Replies

I recently bought an Octavia vRS (2003) and have a couple of quiries. When the engine is warm and I am sitting at lights, the tick over seems to waver slightly, like it is "hunting". It is never to the point of stalling but it is a little kannoying and I was wondering what it could be? Also when accelerating hard there seems to be a flat spot once the turbo kicks in? Is this normal?

I have had similar problems on a couple of my cars, last time it was an idol control valve, other poss could be throttle potentiometer switch. I would suggest you find someone who can read the ecu, ie friendly dealer, are there any warning lights on the dash? Im no expert on these but that would be my starting point.

No warning lights. Had it out at lunch time and it was a lot better. The car has only done 14k miles and with it being a 53 plate I was wondering if it could have not been used for a while? Would this have something to do with it? I am a bit unsure of the acceleration, it is not smooth but this may be due to me not being used to the accelerator yet, i.e. coming off the boost during acceleration. I am going to get it on a rolling road and get the ecu looked at. Cheers for your rapid response, starch.

hook up Vagcom to your car and check for the MAF readings. An unstable idle can be an indication of a bad maf. They are almost disposable.

Have a look and see what coolant temp sensor you have, four pin black?

No whislting noises down the front of the engine, near the inlet manifold?

Not a Skoda, but on the subject my dad's old B5 Passat 1.8 20v non-turbo suffers the same symptoms - could that be a faulty MAF?

I had the same, it was very slight, just had my car serviced, one of the coil packs was not in quite right, once this was pushed back home properly, my idle is not completely still.
