Does service needs to be done only at Authorised dealers for cars with digital service record

Featured Replies

Am due for the service and my car has only digital service records, just wondering should I book my service only at Skoda dealer or can I get it done with other garages like kwik fit etc. If it gets done from other garages will the service log gets updated on my system in the car?

Best avoid Halfords.

Depending where you are in Scotland you might be able to find a VW Specialist that has all the gear and more than an idea.

Licensed Equipment that can get all the info like Software Updates, TPI's etc and can service the car and put that on the System.

Also reset the Service Indicator as they know what they are doing.

Hi @e-Roottoot, thank you. I just phoned kwik-fit and booked in for service for next week. They have assured they got the computers / equipment to update the records. I am still not 100% convinced though. The only reason am avoiding authorised dealer is for the price, although i have not enquired with them until now. Dont know what will be the typical service charges at Skoda.

Where are you, and do you want your car safe & well serviced & maintained?

I would avoid KwikFit.

I watched customers ripped off, oil filter wiped clean and dirty finger print on the filter.

The sump plug was out and then replaced as they never had the correct one, not even a washer changed.

The 'Kwik fit flitter' was layed out on his arse by the the girls 'Uncle' watching from the waiting room.

They had done same the year before with the Pre Winter Service Check and Oil & Filter deal for £99.

People trust their Brake Inspections, Suspension & Steering, trust their lives and others to these 'Fitters'.

Be prepared to be ripped off at a Main Dealership if you let them.

This is 3-10 year old Fixed Pricing started since Jan 2020.

I would probably search for a good independent VAG specialist as they will use genuine parts. Kwik Fit I would steer clear of as they wont use genuine parts and likely not the best oil. I havent been to a Kwik Fit garage in almost 20 years.

Nothing wrong with Kwik Fits oil if they use the correct oil, a big 'If' , which they do not always.,

That is if you want to VW 504 / 507 so 5w 30 FS III.

I take my cars to a reputable local garage that'll fit 3rd party or OEM parts depending on what you require... I doubt they have any specialised computing equipment update the service record though... Is it just a case of resetting it or is something special needed? Worried now that my cost effective backwater garage may not suffice :worried:

If @DHarry says an approx area of Scotland he is in then maybe somebody can point him to a Independent where it is maybe operated by Ex VW Group Master Techs that do have the Licensed Equipment and can update Service Records & even do Warranty work.

They do exist, they are not some internet myth. 'Approved repairers'.

If near the Edinburgh area, i highly recommend.

If in the North East of Scotland here is the place to go IMO.

Hi @e-Roottoot, its Aberdeen

Worth a trip to Maud then and go for a coffee and piece of cake while your car gets a proper service or more work if needed.

What's more important;

Getting the service record updated?

or

Getting the work done correctly?

Personally I would rather lose a couple of hundred at point of sale (due to not having a 'full' service history) to know that I paid less for the servicing at a know good garage and the work was done correctly.

Edit:

Sounds like Root has a good option.

Hi Dharry,

I had mine serviced by local VAG specialist in North East last month, saved a quite a bit of coin compared to main dealer quote. Digi service all updated and reset.

Ive been told that if you subscribe to ERWIN you can update the maintenance schedule in there....Ive not found that function yet....will report back if I do.
