Cheapest second key + fob for 2018 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought at 2018 Octavia Petrol Automatic recently which came with 1 key only.

Now I am trying to get another key for my car and trying to find out what is the cheapest way to get it.

Previously, I had a Toyota Prius for which I could buy a secondhand key off ebay and was able to program it using a procedure which involved enabling pairing mode by doing some particular steps with driver's door and buttons.

Is something like this possible with Octavia MKIII ?

Can I buy a key off ebay and get it programmed with Octavia?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware the keys are not reusable. Once the transponder has been paired to a car's immobiliser it can't be wiped then paired to another vehicle.

A spare key will set you back in the region of 150-200 quid supplied and coded by any skoda dealer.

I have this exact dilemma with a car I tested today albeit a VW.

My initial concern is that there may be a key out there that can open my car. Chatting through it with my fil he found a company that can remove keys from the car and reprogram.

Skip to the end: I'm calling be tomorrow to ask what their view is.

It's the only thing holding me from buying the car so I hope I can figure it out. Of course I'll let you know.

When key pairing is carried out correctly it should remove all the missing keys anyway.

The only thing that a would be thief would be able to do with that key then is to open the car via the mechanical door lock and turn on the ignition via the mechanical barrel. The car won't start and the alarm will sound.

Some auto locksmiths have a different method and force a new key onto the car. This doesn't erase the missing key.

That is very good to hear.

Hopefully my local dealer is willing to do the work. Need app-connect (smartlink) activating too. Not sure why it's not already done on a 2018 car but VW must do things slightly differently to Skoda.

I you buy a key from the dealer and want them to activate smartlink you could always ask if they'll programme the new key for free whilst they have the diagnostic machine connected up. It realistically only takes about 10-15 minutes.

Even better!!

I knew it was a quick job as had a similar thing done on a Renault 10 years ago.
