2.0 TSI VRS Rough Idle, intake air system leak

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Just had my car back from MOT (coincidence probably) but when I got home the idle was hunting between 1250 and 1500 rpm. Checked fault codes with OBDeleven and am getting the following;

P050700 - Idle control system - RPM higher than expected (obvious one!)

P006800 - MAP/MAF Throttle Position correlation

P227900 - Intake Air System Leak (there is a hissing I can't find in the engine bay)

Looking in other forums I'm thinking like it might be the PCV valve, either stuck or leaking gasket. Anyone else have any experience here?

Car has done 120k, REVO remap at 88k and had the turbo replaced at 100k (infamous actuator failure, thankfully stuck in slightly open position so still some boost, and turbo didn't disintegrate itself into the engine) Had no other issues with the car other than the water pump issue fixed under warranty at 15k. I've had it since 6k, and 99% of mileage put on since has been normal. Only used the launch control 3 times!

Check the oil cap is on correctly.

As above. Check your oil cap and dipstick. Seems odd your car was fine before the MOT and since then it is running rough. My bet is that he/she has not replaced something properly during the test.

Check the brake servo vacuum hose, particularly any junctions of hard plastic sections.

Reading with interest as following a service by dealer i had the same fault codes;

P006800 - MAP/MAF Throttle Position correlation

P227900 - Intake Air System Leak

I don't have a rough idle or associated fault code.

I've suffered poor economy since, down from around 380miles/37mpg to 330miles/33mpg a tank, this is since August so not weather related.

Fault appeared three times but not since a throttle position correlation reset by dealer.

Mine is dsg so I feel the behaviour has changed albeit dealer has reset it twice and following a third party examination they have found no fault and said the dsg was working very well and as expected. They could not account for/find a reason for poor economy.

I'm convinced a senor is not quite right and perhaps feeding the dsg duff info but all the experts have said no issues or faults.

Be interested to see if you find a fix or if you've suffered poor economy too.

A positive update!

I managed to roughly locate the air leak somewhere around the crankcase breather, so ordered a new part from Skoda. Part that came off was 06K 103 495 P, and the updated part number is BM at the end instead. £70.

Very easy to replace, though needed a new crimped hose clamp thingy, not sure what they're called.

Started it up, no leaking air noise, reset the fault codes, took it for a drive, all back to normal.

@steved83 mine is a DSG too, but didn't have any fuel economy issues. 40mpg on the way to work (slightly down hill overall).

When I lifted off the throttle it would still apply about 25% throttle for a few seconds before dropping back, another symptom for you!

Sounds like you've got something else wrong with yours.

I would highly recommend getting yourself an OBDeleven, this is the second time I've been able to avoid dealer prices for diagnosis and repair, and as the car is 7 years old now, they're only gonna get more frequent!

@jimbojamesthanks for posting this up. Can't say I've noticed the continuation of throttle on mine upon lifting.

Last few trips have given mpg I would have expected. Who knows might be a placebo thing for me now.

Mine is still covered by warranty and whilst their comms have been a bit poor the dealer has not charged for anything so far.

Think ill drive and see now. If it gets worse something will come up.

Thanks again for posting result
