Squeaky mouse noise

Featured Replies

An odd one but my car has started to make a squeaky mouse sound from rear of car only when turning right at speeds over 20 mph but not every time. It’s not loud so not annoying but wondering what to think it could be???

Brakes would be my initial guess.  Bit of lateral pressure changing the pads contact.  Can you make the noise happen? If so and you have a manual handbrake, it might be worth gently applying the handbrake while in motion to see if that alters the noise. Only if you can do it safely.

If it's not rotational then it could be suspension bushes/components creaking.  Either way, it's worth having it checked - a stitch in time....

It's also worth carrying out a visual inspection in case it's something obvious.  A friend once had a strange noise from the rear of her TT.  A quick look revealed a rather obvious 4' branch caught under the car!

Probably suspension bushes, or, get a cat?

Thanks both. If it’s suspension bushes is it an issue that means a warranty claim or just something liveable with until I can get a cat?

Mine went back for warranty work on suspension creaks, which resolved the noises being made.

Mine squeaks from the suspension bushes(many MQB does) and gets noisier in the winter. I know some dealers put some special grease which last for 6 months or even an year. Or at least that's what they do in Bulgaria.. I would prefer to change them, but AFAIK bushes aren't gone when they start to squeak, just noisier.
