Incidental opening of windows when unattended

Featured Replies

Hi,

On a few occasions recently I have found the rear windows open 3-4” and sun blind on sun roof open whilst being parked in the drive overnight.

Is there an explanation ?

Just the rear windows? And the sunblind rather than the sunroof itself?

If you press the open button on the key fob, it will open all the windows and the sunroof... and you could perhaps do this inadvertently if it is in your pocket... but I don't understand why it would open just the rear windows and the sunblind. Are the doors still locked??

If operated from the key do the rear windows drop first?  Might be brief enough to start the process but not get as far as the fronts.  One of the first things I did in settings was disable the ability to drop the windows with the key.  I kept the putting windows up though.  No idea re sunroof, not having one. :D

Thank you CJJE,

I was more concerned with mopping up the rain water from inside, I don’t think the sun roof was open...and I think it could have been front and rear, and it was unlocked.

I remember on previous  Passats and Golfs, that holding the open button down on the remote would open the windows, and could close them via the lock button.
But this didn’t happen incidentally with them.

I will keep keys out of my pockets.

Cheers

Just go into settings and switch off remote opening the windows.  Simples.

Good advice. The only time I ever use the feature is when the car has been sitting in the blazing sun (usually in the south of France!) and I wanted to get some fresh air into it fast. But when it's that hot, the air isn't that much cooler anyway!

That’s a good option to try, presumably it can be reinstated?

To reassure me that I’m still in control and not some unseen gremlins is a huge relief .

many thanks for your observations and advice.

It’s just a tick, or untick, box in settings.  Easy to reverse and, if I remember correctly, you can have “up” ticked and “down” unticked so you can still close your windows with the remote.  You just can’t pocket press drop them.

Better still thanks , that would be best to save me from continually searching for my keys.
