Are MPG calculations on computer accurate?

Featured Replies

I've only just got my VRS TSI and its the first skoda i've owned. When you finish your journey the screen gives you a rundown of data for the Journey. A very slow journey around town in eco mode with no traffic the computer is saying i'm only getting 24-25 mpg. Is this accurate? I was expecting a lot more.

Sounds about right. Eco mode made my consumption worse around town.

In normal mode I would expect mid to high 20s.

I was expecting around 35 around town. I'll put it into normal and see if this improves at all.

No thats about right mid to high 20s is normal

Eco is pretty unanimously agreed to be useless for improving consumption in town or ‘mixed’ driving. The manual says it’s for a relaxed driving style. In a vRS? What’s the point!?

I’d try Individual driving mode, perhaps just have the engine in Normal to overcome the intrusive engine sound aktuator noise. Keeping the gearbox in D rather than S will save you some fuel.

I get mid 30s from my 220 vRS TSI in general driving.

Even my manual 1.4tsi struggles to get 35mpg on urban trips. I tend to leave it in eco but will try tweaking the individual mode.

We leave our 1.4 TSI in Individual mode, with Sport selected for the engine, and consistently get 45mpg in mixed driving - no large towns near where we live so can't answer what we get in urban driving!

I did try other engine modes but the difference they made to mpg was negligible so opted for staying in Sport mode.

On my 1.0 TSi the fuel computer is about 5-10% optimistic compared to brim to brim calculations over 12500 miles.

mine is similar. Long term average according to the computer over the last ca. 6000kms is 5.3l/100, I believe, and spritmonitor (Fuelly for the UK) tells me 5.87 over that distance. That gives me a 10% difference.  I'm sure the aux heater isn't included in the numbers, though, so in the summer it will have been way closer.  I'm not going to go and check it, it's -20C out there.

Your figures are about right. You only really get above 30mpg on longer motorway runs. I wouldnt worry about the mpgs and enjoy the car.
