Why do people hat stop start so much?

I think one reason is the way that with DSG it can stop the engine while the car is still slowly moving (at least that happens on the Octavia III) which leaves you with power steering.

Ah...   Weird (I assume you mean NO power steering?).  The swift will stop the engine at anything below about 10mph but has an accumulator so you still have steering etc.  If the Octavia doesn't do that it's a poor show.

Power steering run on hydraulics, so needing an accumulator, is rare these days. For a long time VAG cars have all been electric power steering motor. So even when the engine cuts out, there should be battery power to drive steering. My car (Mk3 vRS DSG) stop/start has never cut out the engine until the car is motionless. Not sure what’s up with PetrolDave’s!

Actually thinking about it im getting it wrong and thinking of the brakes with the accumulator...   The steering is electric so i think runs off the separate hybrid battery whilst the emgime is stopped but the car is still moving below about 10mph until totally stationary...   Apologies feel free to ignore me!!
