Steering issue

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2017 superb has just developed a steering issue. It’s fine for 20 mins or so but then the steering starts feeling odd, and starts being slightly less responsive. When making a small steering wheel adjustment on the motorway the wheel slightly locks and needs 1/2 inch turn or so before the wheels turn. The next day, again fine for 15 - 20 minutes then starts doing it again. Sorry for the rubbish explanation. Any ideas?

Have you checked the power steering fluid reservoir (under the bonnet) for correct fluid level.  Might be a leak.

When was steering fluid last changed, might not be pure anymore so is not working properly as engine bay warms up.

Edit  just realised it’s a 2017 car, so fluid probably never been touched, get fluid changed and see if that cures it.

I think all current Skoda's have electric power steering system and therefore don’t  have any fluid that requires changing.

Thank you. I had a look earlier for a fluid reservoir, but couldn’t see one, so assume its electric.  Could it be a power/alternator issue. I’m not mechanically minded but do have a fault code reader so may plug in tomorrow and see if anything pops up

It could be a motor fault in the rack. Not all that uncommon for electric racks to fail.
