Once I empty the sump, how much oil do I need to replenish?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I have been searching high and low for the answer to this but I can not get anywhere. Once I drain the oil sump, when I replenish the oil how much exactly do I need to put in?

The model is 2008 tdi 1.4 80hp Greenline

Thanks in advance

Sorry no idea.

?

Did you not measure how much oil you drained?

If your engine shows on here it will be an ickle more oil than when just doing an oil and filter change.

Be sure to check the level when the oil is up to operating temp and not just when cold.  (Only 1.2 44kW engines are checked cold according to the owners manuals.)

*Warm* is an error, it is at Normal Operating Temperature / Hot, not warm that you check at.

I think your engine code is probably BNV (check build data sticker in boot to confirm). If so you're looking at a ballpark of 4 litres (3.8 quoted) according to this site:

Skoda Roomster engine oil capacity – Oilchange (oil-change.info)

That's for the same engine in a Roomster, can't see why the car model would alter things. Always best to go by the dipstick anyway; chuck in a 3.5 litres, then top up slowly 'til you're near the max level on dipstick, run engine for a minute or two, leave for a minute or two, recheck. Top up as required.

Mine is the BMS engine which the site suggested by Wino is 4.2 litres capacity. Ensure the oil is correct spec due to the DPF fitted to the Greenline.

That will be VW 504 00/ 507 00 then.    the VW507 00 bit being perfect.

Thank for everyone so much for the support. I am enjoying my Christmas break working on the car and want the lubrication system working as best as possible.

I usually buy a 5L oil pack, which will leave plenty left over for top-ups, should the need arise. If I still have some next time round, (i don't burn much oil) a 4L bottle will suffice and the left over oil from previous will make sure the level is correct. So, yes, you will need at least 4L and be sure it is low saps oil. Change at proper intervals and don't try to eek out extra miles. As for how much exactly... There may always still be residual oil inside the engine/sump, etc so although you need a guide, ALWAYS go by the dipstick level. fill with a good 3L, leave a while, say ten mins, check level. If above min, run the engine a mine or two, to flow the oil around the new filter (Don't flimp here, either) then re-check the level. give it a few mins to settle, top up to just below the upper limit and then run the car again. Check there are no leaks during this process. If all seems ok, use the car for a few days and check the level again. Top up as and when...
