Noise after turning engine off

Featured Replies

Car is a my20 superb sportline with the 2L TSI engine

I’m not sure how to describe the noise, when I turn the engine off it sounds a bubbling/crackling sound coming from around the turbo

I’m not talking about the whirring sound which I assume is a pump pushing coolant around, although the noise stops when that process stops so it’s somehow related to that

this is mine. Kodiaq RS. dealer not the most helpful. wants me to reproduce the sound at dealership, says video is insufficient evidence. water pump, according to others

Is your hood up or down?

You can’t hear mine with the hood down as the whirring sound from the pump overpowers it

Mine should be easy to replicate, engine just needs to be warm for it to start that cool down process

Is it every time? It may be linked to catalytic regeneration?

Once the car is up to temp where it kicks off that process which moves coolant around the engine when you switch it off

It's not coming from the turbo, it's something to do with this rubber hose where it meats a metallic pipe:

If you manipulate it in a certain way the noise stops:

Not sure what to make of it lol. It's definitely coolant passing through that hose, as following the metal pipe leads to a rubber hose that goes into the coolant reservoir.

It's cooling the turbo bearings down so oil doesn't sludge in them.

Secondary coolant pump is my guess, these pumps can run for some time after the engine has been switched off.

Yeah I know its that, the noise from that particular hose doesn't sound quite right is what I'm getting at

@chrisluciofg did you ever get to the bottom of the noise?

I have the same Kodiaq as you and just noticed this same noise tonight when I went back into the garage.
