Number plates? What design / surround have you got?

Featured Replies

Need to replace the plates on my Superb Estate. What style plates do you all use?

ABS / Aluminium / Pressed?

Text Style: Regular / Carbon / 3D Text / 3D Gel / 4D Lazer

All are UK Road Legal

Anyone use a surround (like on German styles)

Briskoda plate holders with pressed aluminium plates.

Got 3D gel plates on SWMBO’s car which I prefer.

ABS with no surround, prefer the cleaner look and don't like people advertising on my car.  :-)

As above.

I believe the rules are changing/have changed and some that have been legal will no longer be legal for new fitments

Although I will live with VWFS advertising on their car!

Standard dealer plates where ever possible. Don't want my car to stand out in anyway.

You guys are lucky that you can get plastic plates.

Only legal option we have in NZ is pressed metal :|

Same in Australia only pressed metal here, well in NSW at least.

Out of interest, what is wrong with metal plates? And are you allowed a deviation from standard font or format?

Thanks. :)

Nothing is wrong with them, other than it being a little problematic when you want to affix the number plate to your front bumper without screwing into it

You can deviate but it costs money, even then your choice is only in font colour and only black, blue or red. There's only one licensed manufacturer of plates, which means prices are exhorbitant.

Same here in NSW Australia. Only one manufacturer/supplied which is government controlled. You also can't have anything offensive, rude or otherwise.

I think one supplier is off, but at least it is controlled. Unlike n the UK where there are some ridiculous numer plates about with stupid fonts and spacing, very often illegal. Sadly we have virtually no road police to enforce the rules either.

We have offences for number plates being obscured, altered etc etc. The police but more so Highway Patrol love fining people for these offences

Lucky you. :) Our roads are bordering on lawless these days due to massive cuts to policing numbers. UK seem to rely heavily on cameras to police, which are of limited effect.

With an actual police stop, they do find other issues, bald tyres or what have you and as such have a big benefit to society.
