Faults reported to dealer

Featured Replies

To make things worse, I've had an update from Skoda UK today.

The matrix LED don't work. They dazzle oncoming drivers and they don't illumitae the road properly. Bearing in mind, these were a £1600 option on my car and the garage have had it twice to investigate without resolution. They only ackknowledged the problem existed when they took it for a night drive a couple of days ago and replicated the problem.

Now Skoda UK are arguing that it's a "driver assistance" feature which I can turn off and are therefore not grounds for rejecting the car. Needless to say, I disagree. It's taken over 5 months to get to this point and if it goes on much longer I'll probably ditch skoda for good. It's a real shame as this is my 5th Skoda since 2007.

  • Totally agree, we had the Elegance for 4 years replacing it with an SEL Estate in 2016 both of which served us well without any faults whatsoever and we towed throughout France, Spain and Portugal so

  • apparently its all going to be forwarded on as they aint happy them selfs as its a brand new car and should not be doing this. Will ask to see that its been forwarded on, half of it is software and i

  • If you report the faults within first 30 days, and Skoda is unable to fix them (and dealer not booking in car for a while is not fixing), then should be able to reject without questions.   T

I'm feeling the same way. What Skoda promise and what they provide is miles apart. 'You can turn it off' then why pay for it .... disgraceful. It's advertised as one of the great advances and driver assistant features.

They just keep ditching their responsibility. Tarnishing a reputation which Skoda has successfully built up over the years ...

Keep pushing guys. Really terrible that you're having these issues and they need sorting especially when they are part of paid for options. Even if they offered refunds for the paid option it would be a start.

I'm guessing they can't be recalibrated.

That might be possible but I'm done working as an unpaid QA for Skoda. These are only the faults I've found so far and it's not like I can take them for a test drive at night any time soon.

On the bright side, I've got legal cover with my home insurance and they've confirmed that they'll cover the cost of a lawyer if I need it.

Guys is it now got to the stage for us all to make our voices heard by considering going to [email protected], with all our issues with Skoda, especially Skoda UK.

Think I'd be emailing skoda copying in watchdog.

I have RS one of first edition and yeah i get occasional bug here and there but nothing game breaking as they would say.  It is a car full of computer stuff and i never trust computers too much so i expect errors (maybe because i work in IT and im used that all computers have some issues :D).

anyway - coming from mk2 for me its like day and night upgrade despite all errors etc (which i guess will be updated). Love the car and rate it 9.5/10 (0.5 lost for weak exhaust, come on skoda you could do VW GTI exhaust or similar for it, not the silent, no sound one)

That's some statement!

Rejecting a car has nothing whatsoever to do with Skoda UK as it's between the buyer ( you ) and the seller ( the garage ). So on that basis alone, if they actually said you cannot reject the car then that's very poor advice and not worth the paper it's written on.

When buying a product, it has to perform the way it's advertised, so if anyone is arguing that it can simply 'be turned off' if it's not working as expected, then that statement actually works in your favour if you were going down the rejection root.

If the above is true and Skoda UK have adviced you cannot reject and the solution is to turn the product 'off',  I'd expect that advisor to get their knuckles wrapped if this gets taken any further.

To be honest, I'm still mad about that argument. What next? 6th gear doesn't work but you still have 5 and the 6th is just a convenience? Side windows are convenient

They've got today to come back with something sensible and then I'm going to have to get the lawyer involved. As far as I can see:

  1. The car has faults. All of these faults have been acknowledged by Skoda
  2. I reported the faults within the first 6 months (within 30 days really but I didn't put it in writing - doh!)
  3. They've had the car into the garage twice to address the faults and failed to do so both times
  4. If a car develops faults between 30 days and 6 months, you can reject it. The dealer has one chance to fix it and then that's it
  5. Given the above, I've got the right to reject the car and I've told them that is what I want to do.

At this point, the arguments and delay are just pointless

Don't shoot the messenger but:

1. Faults do not need to be reported in writing, as long as the seller acknowleges this that's what matters. In your case the first 30 days makes no difference anyway.

3. Not strickly true. It really depends what those faults are - if it's minor stuff, you can't reject rather you come to a settlement. A court will not accept rejection for minor faults.

4 ???

Now this is where it becomes a tad more complicated. If you said you wanted to reject the car then no probs, reject it. HOWEVER...   If you said you wanted to reject the car and then drove away in that car and used it, then in the eyes of the law, the car has been accepted. In other words, that 'minor fault' comes in to play.

As I say don't shoot the messenger, but given what you've just written, the rejection process may not be as clear cut as you think.

Hope you get it sorted.

So still waiting for magic part for the seat and other issues i still have are still happening, had a new issue start a few days ago when going over a road hump and done it a few times since, the digital cockpit and lights either side for fuel gage have started flickering on and off, not all the time but i have also noticed the cockpit looks very dim compared to when i first had it, checked settings and brightness still up and on very bright but seems very dull

I thought I'd upload the video of the problem I'm having with the lights. This was taken during the test drive performed by the garage where they confirmed the problem. They're still being awkward and refusing to accept the rejection. I've been trying to get hold of rejectmycar.com but I guess they're a bit busy at the moment.

Was that on dip or main beam?

If the latter and the system is supposed to dip automatically or adapt the matrix do you have the facility to manually dip if the system doesn't?

I feel sorry for the oncoming drivers in that video clip but realise it was the garage and not you driving.

I understand that you have paid a lot (more than 95% of my vehicles have ever cost) for a feature that doesn't work but do you really want to reject a car because you have to manually dip the headlights? Surely you would do that for pedestrians anyway?

Would a refund of the money you paid for the feature which is not fit for the purpose not be an acceptable outcome? Your vehicle would appear to be fit for its purpose, its the gimmicks that aren't, I totally understand when you have to pay for said gimmicks although for £1600 I will continue with old school, -setting my lights according to the situation ahead of me.

These are the matrix beams which are supposed to blank out around other drivers.

To be honest, what I really want is to have an Octavia of the same spec as mine but with working Matrix headlights and the other software glitches fixed. I've only had a chance to drive it for a little over 2k miles and this is what I've found so far. I'd be more than happy to discuss swapping for a different car but they haven't even raised the possibility, they're just being obstructive.

I paid for the Matrix because I always want the best headlights I can get. I don't want a refund, I want my car to work like it's meant to. That's not being unreasonable, is it?

No, I get where you are coming from, I have sight deficiency and its particularly noticable when night driving, the headlights on the video do look excellent and but for your bad reporting it would be something I could aspire to, however I get very dazzled by oncoming headlights, it really is a problem for me and the old badly maintained cars are suprisingly the minority of the offenders, its the LED and Xenon lamps that are the majority and by far the worst.

I could not drive your car at night, firstly through empathy for the oncoming drivers but also because their flashing would dazzle me, I have to ask again can they not be used in the traditional manner? If not then they should be withdrawn IMO.

No its not being unreasonable to expect your vehicle to do what its claimed to do but perhaps, in hindsight, its not wise to be seduced by the expectation of a vehicle taking care of the tasks that for the present an attentive driver is far more capable of doing and the victims are not just the purchaser but every oncoming motorist.

Defenetly faulty headlights. Dark part should be wider and no blinking at the end.
