New stereo

Featured Replies

Thought I'd share my experiences of replacing the standard Skoda (Grunding) Symphony stereo in my RS.

Eventually got tired of having to go into the boot to swap CDs so decided to go for an mp3-capable head unit. Chose the blaupunkt mp72 as I'd owned a blau before and was happy with it and also didn't want anything too flashy (need to listen to it, not watch it!).

Figured that I could fit my entire CD collection onto around 30 CDRs of mp3s and fit them into a small case in the glove box instead of ferrying them back and forth to the house!

Physical install of the head-unit was straightforward. Had a bit of trouble removing the original stereo as the holes to fit the removal "keys" in were quite a bit slimmer than the "keys" I'd collected from owning 5 or 6 other stereos (I like upgrading...) Eventually got it out by using a leatherman-esque tool that actually came out of a cracker!!

Once I'd finished the mrs came out to have a look and asked to try a CD which I then remembered I'd left in the now redundant CD changer in the boot! So had to uninstall the new stereo, put the old one back in etc. etc...

Anyway, got there in the end!!

That sounds very interesting, I like the idea of squashing 10 or 20 cd's in mp3 format onto one disk, I do this on my home PC but wasn't aware you could get a player for the car.

a) Was the player expensive?

B) What was the sound quality like compared to the original unit?

c) have you kept the original speakers ?

I look forward to your answers with baited breath! :)

Kgb,

I have thought about this myself but for that very reason, tacky looking facia with lots of flashing lights, so I have not bothered. The standard unit is plane but functional and is not tempting to thieves.

With an MP3 player I would not worry about going into the boot as I guess once loaded up you would not need to unload again for some time.

How much did it cost?

Mike
