Amundsen Sat-Nav Updates

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have just paid a deposit on a 66 Octavia VRS with the Amundsen Sat-Nav.

Am I able to buy the updated maps online and load them myself or is it a trip to the main dealer?

Or, can you link a smartphone with this system and utilise google maps?

Thanks in advance.

Yup, you can update the maps from Skoda. Try here: https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

For reference, on a '66 plate vRS you'll have a MIB2 Amundsen. You'll need to use an official Skoda SD card, you can reuse the existing one that's in the glovebox :)

You should also be able to connect a using Android Auto or CarPlay with a USB cable assuming Smartlink is enabled.

In the menu structure of the Amundsen you will see "Smartlink" . This is a dealer enabled option at around £140. Previous owner might have done this already if you're lucky.

But as said map updates are free from the portal onto the genuine SD card ( that hopefully you will get when you get the car)  via a PC.

They are big files 16Gb or so. There are several threads on how to preform the update which involves  formatting the SD card and copying the file onto it.  If using a MAC it gets a bit more complicated.

So - maps are still available for MIB2 systems - best make sure you have the latest firmware and if you look elsewhere on the forum (in the Car Entertainment forum), you will find links to the latest maps for your system.

The policy of charging for the maps stopped a couple of years back, so you should be able to update the sat-nav maps until such time as VW stop supporting it.
