Octavia 2 estate headlight adjustment

Featured Replies

Hi. Does anyone know a simple way to check that the headlight level on an Octavia 2 is correct before an MOT. One seems lower than the other when driving!

A good examiner will adjust for free.

On the other hand, they might charge. I had to pay £18. I hadn't noticed they were out before, couldn't tell the difference after and because they adjusted the self-levelling dipped beams by adjusting the whole unit, the main beams ended up searching for low-flying aircraft. When I queried this, I learnt that main beam isn't assessed at MoT time.

Yes the main beam isn't checked for alignment but if they had the cheek to adjust the dipped without prior consent and messed up the mains why pay? £18 at that!

A quick way would be to park on a flat ground against a wall. The beam cut off should be at the same level.

Obviously to accurately check the level you'd need to measure the beam height with the car a certain distance from the wall etc.
