must say sounds a hell of a lot better but still crap compared to what ive had in the past it could be time for me to re-enter the ice age

Looks OK but to improve sound more you will need to fit a decent pair of speakers... Downside is that the fitting depth would require you to cut out remaining card which will then need you to fit something over the top of the speaker (around frame/magnet) to stop water entering at the bottom of the door... How much work do you want?!!

i am thinking of getting back into the ice department but like you say how much work do i want i did years of fitting amps and subs and door speakers in my youth and got to a point when i changed my car i couldnt be arsed fitting it all again so i flogged the lot

should have held back an amp really

any one know of any good component speakeers that will fitt with out to much bucthering of doors also how does this effect warranty

Pioneer make some that will drop staight in and claim to be an OE custom fit set.

Infinities may require some cutting.

Chorsley how many packs of Four Skins did you use for the front doors?

 I diddnt know they packaged them up and sold them - I hear their removal is quite popular in the US.

Yeah, huge mark up on them. They take them and then cutlivate them to turn them into car door speaker protectors ;)

Do the speaker covers come off easily without having to remove the door cards etc? I'll have a bash at doing similar later on or during tomorrow's fettling day.

Think you have to take the whole door card of IIRC, but not a major issue. There is definately a thread on how to do it somewhere here.

i did it without takin off door card it was easy just lever off the cover witrh a flat head undo the speaker model knife cut about half of the cup thing leaving the top half intact as in the photo

pm me if you need to know more

what year is your car i think you may have a cover rather than the cup things

mine's a '52' reg

mines a 53 plate so you may have the cup type thingy i think earlier models had the other type cover

mind you i may have all this *** backwards dont quote me on this

Done! It looks to have the same foam (with some cotton wadding behind the speaker coils)as yours, although, having used a sharp knife mine looks a bit neater now ;)

I did one, compared it with the other & the difference was quite drastic. There was much more 'punch' to the sound so I did the same to the other side.

I removed the 'carpet' from the underside of the rear speakers and tightened up the plastic nuts holding the parcel-shelf supports, which had been a bit loose, to cure the light buzzing that could be heard at high volume. I've also disconnected the rear door tweeters, as suggested.

I can now turn up the volume further for less deterioration. It's not quite up to 'sound-off' standards, but for a free mod (the best kind :) ) I'm very impressed!

I guess that a new (mp3-able) head unit is the next thing to go for..... A sub would be good too... Oh dear, here we go....
