Help? I have just fitted a new battery to my 2010 Yeti, It turns over OK but will not fire up, the car has been standing for a long while in my garage. the mileage is only 3000 miles, as I have access to 2 other Skoda's. If anybody can help I would applicate it?

3000 miles on a 10+ year old car?
Also it would help if you say if it's petrol or diesel and what engine it is.
Do you have any fault lights up?

How long since it last had a good run?

Hi Urrell, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the engine is a 2ltr TDI, no fault lights showing, and it has not been out for over a year? it did run for about a minute and then shut down.

Best look in the Airfilter box and see the condition of it and see if rodents have made a home there.

The Fuel Filter might be an issue.

Is the temperature low enough that the diesel waxing could be an issue if the diesel in the tank was put in at a time when there was not Winter spec stuff being sold.

Hi Friend, thanks for your reply, yeti is kept in a nice warm garage, so I don't think the fuel is a problem, its also rodent free, as I put on my post the car as only done 3.321miles so all filters are virtually new. Thanks for your help, keep safe.

@yeti2012Lovely that the car has done such low miles, but it is in its eleventh year.

So that might well be an issue with rubber, wiring and connections.

?

Is the car on its original Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Brake fluid since 2010?

?

When was the fuel put into the fuel tank?

Original fuel filter and 4 year old diesel? Sounds like it to me.

When you do get the car going, take it for a decent run and then give the poor old thing some new engine oil and filter for the sake of £40.

It is more important to regularly replace oil and filters on a car not doing many miles than one doing a lot higher miles up and down a motorway where the oil gets up to temperature to burn off the contaminants.

On an 11 year old car??
Just because a car has done very little mileage does not mean that things don't deteriorate. and if those filters have been on for those 11 years then frankly they are knackered, probably along with a lot of other things. Low use is one of the worst things out for a car, they need to be used, and if that use isn't often then they need to be serviced more often.

I would replace the fuel filter and drain the fuel from the fuel filter housing and replace it with some new stuff  as fuel does go off with age.
