Help me spec an Octavia

Featured Replies

Hello all,

About to get my first company car and am thinking about getting an Octavia as they're just such good value for money!

I'm planning to get an Octavia Elegance 2.0 TDi with the following options:

LIGHT ASSIST

Tyre pressure monitor

Active front headrest system

Multi-function steering wheel including maxi dot

Pearlescent paint

ESP + EDL + HBA

17" Pegasus alloy wheels including sports suspension

Xenon headlights

AUD RAD+INTD 6CD CHNG+12 SPEAK

The quote comes in at about

I had leather in mine which was actually a very nice option. It added a class to the car and raised the all ready very good comfort level.

I thought about that... but that'd take me way over budget. Anyway, leathers cold in the winter, and sticky in the summer :p

Does anyone know what the lead time for an octavia is?

I went for light assist, steering wheel audio controls, maxidot & tyre pressure monitor but to be honest these were just the icing on the cake because as far as i was concerned, ESP and Side Airbags were essential.

I test drove 2 Octavias yesterday. Same engine, but one had 16" tyres, the other 17". The 16" was the first one and it really nice. Then the 17" which was alot more noisy (tyre/ road noise). They were a world apart!

I thought about getting 17" as they look really cool, but no way after driving with them. Some might disagree, but it really killed alot of the ambiance and luxury of the car, as well as the quality feeling.

But the 16" were perfect!

I thought about full leather as I think it looks really nice and classy. But my parents have had it in all their

cars and there are some downsides I think:

They are really cold in the winter, and can hot in summer.. I also

find that I get sweaty/ damp in them. My mom hates them, always have and they have now settled for a leather/textile combo.

They also tend to look worn after not too long, which can be a drab. I`ve seen 1 year old cars where the driver seats looked like hell.

I went for the DUO leather/upholstery which was already in the L&K.

Think they mix the best of both worlds as you get leather (well, look-alike) in the doors and on the sides of

the seats, but textile where your *** is. And they are great to sit in.

I think it`s a great combination and it still looks classy!

Yeah, I was concerned about the road noise. I drive around 40k miles per year, so this really would be an issue! I'll drop the wheels and spec the curtain airbags I think.

Not sure about the leather combo thing Christian. I think I'm gonna get a black car with black interior (original huh?!) and I kinda like the cloth interior. Seems quite hard wearing.

Time between ordering and receiving about 2-3 months I would think. I ordered mine just before xmas and it arrived in first week of march.

Maxi dot much clearer display than the alternative so worth having.

Xenons much brighter than halogens I've certainly noticed thedifference.

Leather seats yes I mmed over whether they would be cold in winter, sticky in summer. So far have not found then cold in winter but having an L&K they are heated if I need to.

Light assistant useful I suppose when driving in changeable weather conditions by switching the lights on for you.

The safety features ESP, active head restraints, tpm are probably useful if safety is a concern. Also consider curtain air bags.

I find light assist more useful for the coming/leaving home functions.

ESP is essential for the 2.0TDI as far as i'm concerned. That engine can be a handful with all that torque and a peaky torque curve. ESP has saved my bacon a couple of times. Ok maybe just saved me from extreme embarrassment.

Drop thee head unit upgrade as newer octys will get a jack to plug an mp3 player in the jump box, and add the curtain airbags.

Is there not an ipod adaptor for Skodas now that allow you use the dock connector?

Nice Spec, wish I'd gone for the 17" Alloys now, but hay happy with mine.

May be worth considering the rear sun blind. I find it very useful for keeping the car cooler and it a full rear screen roller blind.

Anyway, leathers cold in the winter, and sticky in the summer :p

My L&K leather seats are heated so definately not cold in winter. As for hot in summer - hmmm, will have to let you know. :D

I have leather seats in mine, there heated so not cold in winter and the dual climate is very good so summer isn't a problem either. If I was changing my car for another 2.0 TDI Elegance I'd definately go for DSG above the other options as it suits the 2.0 TDI so well.

Think there is a jack to connect any MP3 to if you spec the jumbo box option or your car has one. Mmm lovely air condidtioned iPod :P

Get the tinted glass option - I did, and with today being hot and sunny (HOORAY!) I'm very glad I did.

Far better than the silly light assist thingy

I've got 17" wheels and sports suspension, Wouldn't go back to normal set up.

Also recomend DSG having now tried one, would even consider droping one spec down to add what you want.

Hmm, I didn't see tinted glass on the option list.... is it black tinted or green tinted? As for everyone saying leather, that'll really push me over my budget :p

With the amount of miles I drive in a year, I'm really not sure about the comfort factor of the sports suspension with 17"s over standard suspension and 16s... although I'm young, I'm not gonna be chucking it round corners :D

As for the ipod thing, I really want to be able to control the ipod via the stereo, rather than just plug it into stereo via a jack plug. Theres definately a unit available for the VW head units, which loses you the cd changed, but maps the changer buttons on the HU to six playlists on your ipod. Thats what I want!

Also, would really like the DSG box, but economy is a big priority. The way I get my money for the car is by claiming back my mileage. I have to pay for my own fuel, business and personal. It all works out, but basically, the more miles I can squeeze out of a tank the better!

I have the standard set up with 16" wheels and to be honest even throwing the car down a few country roads or being a tad over zealous on roundabouts still doesn;t make the car lose composure. in fact you need to be going sideways for the esp to have to kick in

sideways is my second favourite direction after forwards!

tinted glass I thought that was standard on every model bar the basic.

New for 2006 is sunset glass which I understand to be privacy glass behind the driver.

Yes, mate, sorry to midlead - I had Sunset glass spec'ed on my Octavia - What a difference it makes too!

  • Author

Can you get that on a hatch, or is it just the estate?

Pretty sure that you can spec it on both!

Hehe, having been down to the dealer again, I think I'm going to change my mind and get an Octy Sport. Won't bother with the audience upgrade, but will get the climate, xenons and sunset glass (and some other bits and pieces).

The brochure lists all Octavias coming with ESP as standard, but then under the sport listing, it says ESP again. Does this mean it gets that EDL and HBA thingy too, or do I still have to pay extra for that?

I have the 17" Pegasus alloys with the sports suspension on a 2.0 tdi elegance estate and am delighted that I chose this option as the car handles far better on the twisties than the standard set up but is still very comfortable cruising along the motorway. It is the quietest car that I have ever owned (i've had VWs, BMWs and Toyotas) and I wouldn't go back to the standard car. The only extra that I don't find all that great is the TPM but one of the great things about buying Skodas is that the optional extras are cheaper in comparison thanwith say VW and
