Morning all. I've bought a 2007 skoda 1.4 16v. By the drivers pedals I'm getting quite substantial water gathering. Are there any know faults that'll cause this. I'm no mechanic but the door seal seems fine. When I open the bonnet, the engine sound proof material is quite damp. Any help is appreciated.

the place the water gets in if anywhere is underneath the windscreen scuttle panel (panel under wipers). Thats where the wiring looms etc pass from inside the engine to the vehicle interior.

 

That place you see in your image which looks wet, is most likely just a result of the seal you see along the scuttle panel not in the correct place / fitted correctly, so when its raining heavy and wipers are on the water is going under that seal and down the front of the bulkhead soaking the insulation.

Appreciate the reply. Yes, I did notice that the seal was loose when i opened the bonnet. Going to wait for it to dry before fixing. My first thought was its following the wiper wires through the bulk head. Is it an easy fix for a mechanic?

Are the pedals wet or underneath ? if it's running down over the pedals it can be the seal across the top of the scuttle panel not seated correctly or as mentioned the wiring loom into the car dislodged or cracked

It has also been know for the door drain holes in the bottom of the door to be blocked or as I  had before the plastic panel seal under the  drivers door card that's been cut due to a problem in the door and not replaced or stuck back in place after repairing, this allows water to leak inside the car into the foot wells  even though the door seal looks and is perfect   I found this out after replacing the  door seal and water still leaked  in,  then after  speaking to a friend who came across this issue on the passenger side  resealed the plastic cover and water stopped coming in this also worked for me so try the other suggestions by all means but don't rule this out

Thanks buddy. I'm going to rip the footwell carpet up on the weekend and get a hose pipe on the outside of the car, see if I can see where its entering from. (Door or bulk head). The pedals are dry as is the inside of the door by the seals but I'll check just incase. Thanks for replying.. 👍🏼

Thats a good post... I have just had to replace a regulator on an electric window of a Yaris and after 19 years or so, found the plastic vapour barrier had been cut/ripped out by the bodyshop, who under an insurance claim, removed and fitted a new door skin, when the car was just 6 months old, due to a little ar5eh0le thinking my door looked nicer with his trainer footprint embedded in it! I luckily had some vapour barrier plastic (Visqueen)  from when I laid some laminate flooring and some butyl sealant from another water barrier system, so I made up a new vapour barrier to fit. I am surprised not to have found the inside of the door card all wet or mouldy but it was very bad practice not to replace it and I can be sure they charged the insurance company for every little clip and drip of mastic they used!

 

If you find a damaged/removed vapour barrier, take time to fit a new one and seal it nicely.
