Spare key not unlocking

Featured Replies

Hi again!

Another strange thing I noticed tonight- if I use the remote on the spare key, the lights flash and the door locks clunk as usual, but the doors don't actually unlock. I can open the driver's door with the key, but none of the other doors unlock. I seem to be able to lock the doors with the remote. Haven't tried to start the car. It's a while since I've used the spare key, do I need to drive the car using the spare key so it remembers the spare key and let's it fully unlock the doors again, or something? Assuming the spare will still start the car, of course...

Thanks.

Ps- I don't think it's the battery, as car still responds to the key with locking noises and light flashes?

Does the driver's door unlock with one press but the others don't?

Do you have different profile settings on each key?

I can't remember if the Mk2 had that ability but later cars do.

You're right, driver's door unlocks but the rest don't. I don't think I have profile settings on the key, I don't know! it may be that it's only ever unlocked the driver's door and I've not noticed!

Two quick presses will unlock all the doors.

Well, so it does! Thanks. Guess the keys are programmed differently by default.

Is it possible to reset the spare key to match the main key?

It is but you may need to have either a Maxidot display or access to someone with VCDS.

Hopefully someone else can confirm the first part of my answer.

You can also do it with the Carista app on facelift model but you have to check first if yours is an earlier model.

Mine is pre-facelift, and not Maxidot I'm pretty sure. And my VCDS contact is out of action due to a motorbike crash! No worries, I'll live with the spare key being the way it is.

Thanks for the help, folks.
