white dust from vents

Featured Replies

few months ago started getting white bits from vents but quite a lot which covers my dash and door panels, so far have done a vent bomb, put the foam through the unit behind the filter (filter is fine by the way), blew an airline through all the vents, check nothing loose letting particles in.

all this done and still the same, my reckoning is it must be something already in the system as the filter is fine, ive been to a local vw/skoda repair shop who are stumped, been to local air con specialist who not sure, i have read maybe coming from the evaporator unit ??? i love the car and plan to keep long term but cant put up with this issue any longer, i know to check the evaporator is a big job but willing to pay to solve the problem, smaller repair places are a bit unwilling to complete such a big job so i think i have to bite the bullet and go to local dealer no matter the cost!!!

any help or advise appreciated before i spend a fortune ?????

Can you get a chemical analysis of the particles, might narrow down the search.

Any chance someone has been pranking you (or did so in the past and you are still suffering)?

no one has access to my car except me so not a prank, if you shine a light into the vents you can see the white bits, dont know wether to spray some foam directly into the vents to see if it clears.

its not all the time so it must be something breaking up which is making me think its the evaporating unit

Have you try to clean the vent ducts with a vacuum cleaner? It may help getting rid of this white dust...

yes tried that as well as blowing them through with a powerful airline, i bought some foam which was sprayed into the unit behind the filter, was going to maybe spray some of this foam direct into the vents ??

It’s a guess, but could the pollen filter be disintegrating?

pollen filter has been checked and is fine

has anybody had this issue and actually had the evalorating unit replaced? if yes did it fix the problem? worried about spending a fortune but the problem still being there

Have you been to a main dealer and asked them?

Know you said you went to a Skoda/VAG specialist, but dealer could have a lot more detail, especially if you get a chance to chat with a helpful service manager, that isn't all about selling...

Might be worth a visit, especially with the money you are looking at

have been quoted £1100 from skoda to replace the evaporation unit and £1800 at a nearby skoda/vw specialist, what do people think considering its a full dash out job, am prob gunna have the car another 3 years or so so cant put up with the bits ??.

Whatever you do make sure you don't collect it in small plastic bags !!!

You would be surprised as they can look fine but still be falling apart..

A new quality filter is a cheap test for those still having the problem.

I only change mine in October for a Bosch replacement so I wouldn't think it's that but maybe popping it out and run it for a couple of weeks to see if that helps maybe?

Hi Lesw1975, I'm having the same white debris coming out of the vents on my recently acquired 16 plate fabia.  I'm going to try get it repaired under warranty from the car sales place but would be great if you could update to confirm that this did sort it out properly in the end.  Mine seems to spit the stuff out more as you switch between hot and cold but occasionally it just starts snowing inside the car 😂😂😂
