Error - start-stop system superb mk3 2019

Featured Replies

Hi,

just wondering why this error popped up in my car today, it’s done just over 3000miles 2019 reg.

hadn’t used the car in a few weeks and took it out this morning and had that, on way home error was no longer there?

Should I take it to the garage as it’s under warranty?

Perhaps the battery needed a boost after being stood for some time and by driving it, the battery gained sufficient power to allow Stop/Start and the fault self-cleared. If it happens again despite regular use and your battery is healthy, Aldi are currently selling a basic OBDII device for £16.99, which could help you self diagnose any EML or simple faults. My 19 reg Superb battery needs to be topped up regularly with an Optimate trickle charger as its use is limited by lockdown.

My car has done that recently, switched ignition off & on again and then okay.

I'm assuming the battery was a little flat as it hasn't been driving much recently, and when it is it's cold & dark so extra strain on the electrics.

I had a trickle charger on for a few days just to keep it healthy

Due to low mileage / low usage my stop-start hasn't worked since lockdown 1 - but I never got a warning message.

Even before that SS would only kick in intermittently on a longer run. My battery has been playing up for awhile now - possibly age related or just low usage / mileage. Either way after the last failed start (which needed a jump from a recovery van while on the other side of town) I put the battery on a 2.5 day charge / recondition after which the SS came back to life for a short while. I think I'd rather have SS  disabled since IMO it's more trouble than it's worth. I could switch it off manually via the button on console every time I use the car but I think I'd rather have it coded off permanently. I don't have access to coding so it will have to wait until the next service / visit to my independent VAG specialist.
