Can I put a taller tyre on my wheels.

Featured Replies

I appreciate it would need to be all 4 corners at once but can I replace the current 235/40/19 tyres with a taller tyre? I’m thinking this might make the ride a bit less ‘harsh’. There seems to be plenty of space visible between the top of the tyre and the arch rim.

I would imagine a small increase would be fine, just remember to inform your insurance company.

A better plan might be to fit smaller alloys and stick with an approved tyre size, just check for clearance around the brake calipers :)

Shouldn’t really deviate from approved size (and might have insurance problems if you do)

If you want more comfort, need to change the wheel size to 17 or 18 inch and put on deeper tyres.  See link (pick your year and engine size for options)

It is also worth changing to softer all season tyres, especially if you have sporty or Eco tyres which tend to be firm (and thus give harsher ride)
