Instrument Display

I have just acquired an L&K Superb MKIII 4X4, first registered 30 Jan 2016. I traded in a 2009 MKII, which I had brand new with only 57000 on the clock. Obviously there are many differences to get used to but one thing seems rather strange - when I start the car in daylight the only things that light up on the Speedo, tacho, temp and fuel gauges are the needles. The mph markings are white on a pale background and I find them difficult to read! Once I switch the sidelights on, all is revealed but I don't really want to drive with the sidelights on all the time - as well as the DRLs. Is this normal? I have already looked in the infotainment book to see if anything can be changed but it seems I can only adjust the Instrument Cluster lighting for when the sidelights are on.

This is normal, when only the needles are lit, it’s a reminder that you should have your headlights on. Just leave the headlights selected to auto and you won’t have any problems reading dash.
