Cost to replace DAB/ Shark fin antenna on a 2016 Skoda Yeti?

Featured Replies

My 2016 Amundsen unit is now getting very poor DAB reception.  I don't have any USB cables or phone chargers installed to create electrical noise and we are in a good signal area for DAB, so my working assumption is the roof Sharkfin unit has the dreaded water damage.  Does anyone have expereince of replacing it or getting a dealer to do so?  Keen to understand what the cost might be.

All help welcome.

Thanks

I have a similar issue. DAB used to work pretty good but now it is useless. I don't have a sharkfin, it is a screw in shorty. I looked at it from under the liner and can see no amp so it must be elsewhere in the roof. I also looked at the FM antenna in the boot glass but have no idea if it is working. I can find no info on any of these or the wiring loom. Anyone have some info please?

I replaced a fair few aerials in my time at skoda, and recentyl upgraded my octavia aerial with failed gps to the same but now with dab version. Its a relatively simple job, unplug the connections and a big nut but a tricky one without completely dropping the back half of the roof lining. (pillar trims and handles and door seals off etc) By shortcutting and just levering the back edge of the roof lining down it can be done, but you have to be very careful you don't crease the roof lining.
Cost at the dealers would depend if they charge the book time (roof lining drop) or the time taken (lower it just enough to do the job while being careful)

Hi daz1986, Thank you for the reply. To pick your brain, does the short screw in aerial have an ampilifier? The MIB2 radio has a dual cable connector which appears to be the radio antennas. How can I check the back glass ampifier? Is there meant to be 12v there, maybe that would be a clue? If the voltage is presnt but it doesn't get signal then it may be bad.

For clarification I do from time to time (I guess when near a transmitter) get DAB signals BUT I used to get it much better for longer.

The screw in aerial to my knowledge doesn't have an amplifier of its own, its all done in the headunit. So if the DAB is poor, its either the aerial base unit or a headunit amp issue(if not simply a signal strength in a particular area issue)
The FM aerial has a booster fitted at the end of its cabling, something along the lines of 5L6 035 577 A as an example is what your looking for which could fail.
Depending on which headunit you've got, most have a fm signal screen thats accessible to show the signal strength, I'm not sure on the availabilt of a dab version

Hi again,

So some new findings. I was able to verify the screen antenna is working for FM. The roof aerial is definitely not got an amplifier only two cables with Fakra and neither of them seem be for the DAB. However in the driveway where I get a DAB signal if I open the boot it kills the signal. very weird. I went to the headunit to see which aerial is which. The double connector is only FM. The DAB is a single black connector and when removed the signal dies of course. What is really a concern is the base of the head unit is very hot. More hot then I would expect any electronics to be other than maybe a valve guitar amp.

Also, does anyone know how to access (if even available) the screen that shows antennas and signal? I have tried many combinations of button presses to no avail. The unit is a 5L35680C.

Usually you press and hold the "setup" button on most vag radio's. That part number is missing a few  numbers, so can't tell which radio you have

Hi, I omitted the zeros, the full number is 5L0035680C

When hold the setup I get a software/update screen but no antenna info.

Just researched into it, Appear son MIB units, which yours is, you have to use diag equipment or carista to enable a "green engineering menu" which is hidden by default and this contains de-dubbing info inc signal strength amongst many other tthings. From what I've seen, Its not something to be messing with as you can easily brick the radio
