Running in

Featured Replies

Sorry, I know this has been posted before - but can't find.

Pick my vRS up tomorrow. Can't remember the running in guide.

I don't want to mash it in - but at the same time - I've got to drive it!?!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I'll keep you posted if it's a BLT (Bloody Light Throttle?) version, stutter, stutter!

Cheers, D

has been covered before and it is also in the owners hand book.

Or you can just give it the full-beans method from day 1 :D Either way, make sure you keep an eye on the oil level as these engines are thirsty for the first 10k :D

Great stuff,

Many thanks,

Dave

I drove it 'normally' from day one. Up to 4K and strong acceleration.

In 8700 miles it drank 1/2 litre of oil.

Agreed. Just make sure you warm it up before enthusiastic use (as you would any car). Other than that drive normally from day one.

Kick the s-hit out of it. It will be a 'quicken' then ;)

I like this technique! but hopefully you meant in terms of the accelerator peddle cos kicking the **** out of a new car is not adviseable.

unless you are called Jeremy Clarkson and have bought a proton (was it a proton?)

The "give it some" running in technique seems to be the prevalent one.

Both chaps I spoke to at the dealer said it didn't need much running in. One said take it easy for the first 500 miles.

So far, I've been using no more than half throttle - and shifting at 2000 whilst the engine warms. Then when warm ususally at 2500 rpm. Once or twice I've taken it up to 3000ish.

Essentially, my main concerns are to 1) use smooth acceleration, 2) smooth changes, 3) don't use to many rpm until warm.

I'm also trying to work the brakes in gradually as I guess both pads & disks should be treated gentle to start.

I have seen it said before that the VRS Fabia uses oil. I was a bit worried about this as I ran mine in during a visit to Spain. However I have now done my first 5000 miles and have only yet needed to add 1/2 litre of oil. It has probably used less than a litre in total in 5000 miles. Is this unusual?

well I did the "drive it as normal" running in method, and I've now done 34,000 miles, and never had to top up the oil

Yep, topped up half a litre in the first 1000, done 14,000 since and no furthur top ups needed!

A litre in 10,000 miles is about par for the course.
