2014 Auto Estate Flat Battery

Featured Replies

Can any please tell me why my battery goes flat if the car stands for more than a couple of days. I take it for a 20 minute drive to charge it but after a couple of days standing it won't start. Means getting local garage out to start it. Happened four times now.

Please advise.

20 minutes won’t really make a significant difference to charging. I’d suggest you get one of these intelligent chargers from Amazon or similar for about £25-£30. It put some new life into mine!

Do I need a new battery?

Very likely at 6 years old.

But it can be tested.

To @BobH38 - There are two basic reasons for empty Car batteries:

1. The Car battery was not good/enough/properly charged;

2. The Car battery is faulty.

I exclude the options, that something electric is switched on all the time in the Car or there are other tehnical Problem with Car electro system.

The cold is also a reason, the Car battery to give low electric power.

20 Minutes drive is not enough to charge deeply discharged Car battery.

How old is Your Car battery?

Try to charge the Car battery for more than 24 Hours.

After that, if the Car battery is empty again, after few days without a drive, it is better to buy a new Car battery.

Many thanks for your response. The battery came with the car in 2014.. Looks like I need  to buy a battery charger and or a new battery.

To @BobH38 - My "Superb" is produced in 2014 Year too :) Still with original Car battery but it is in bad condition. Now, when the temperature is low, after two or three days without a drive, the Voltage when parked drops to about 12V and when try to start the Engine drops to 8V, which is actually a moment before to get faulty at all. If the Car is driven everyday I think that the Car battery will last this Winter and this Summer (Summer is much easy for Car battery). For the next Winter I do not believe that it will be OK. May be Your situation is the same. If You have strong patience and Garage (or a handy and secure place) where to charge Your Car battery, when You do not drive the Car for two or maximum three days, it will maybe serves to the end of this Summer. In the Summer or even Spring, the Car battery will last about a week without a drive. It is a about 7-8 months period, why not to try :) But difenetelly, You must be prepared to the fact, that You can stay on the road every moment. Think twice :)

Looks like a new battery is needed. Must I purchase from a Skoda main dealer. The reason I ask my Dealer has just quoted £247.50 to supply and fit. Am still reeling.

you can get one of the same standard for half that, fitted and coded. have a look at local garages.

To @BobH38 - No, it is not needed to buy the Car battery from "Skoda". I think that the price in "Skoda" is much higher than the quality. If the original Car battery is, for example, 20% better than any other, the price is about 100% higher. Every manufacturer of Car batteries give a few years Guarantee. Check prices and Guarantee conditions and make a decision after that :) If Your Car have "Start/Stop"-System, than the new battery need to be coded with Laptop with "VCDS"-Software :)

Thanks everyone. My car does have start/stop system. I shall ask my local garage if he has VCDS software.

The original battery has just been replaced in my 2014 1.4 Superb. After being left for a couple of cold days it was complaining of low battery after I unlocked the car. Mine is a stop/start and a great local independent garage sorted for about £100.

One clue  - the stop/start operated less and less and not at all in the weeks beforehand.

To @bigjohn - Yes.. It is normal.. May be the first sign for a bad Car battery is "Start/Stop"-System that stop working..

Although my car has Start/stop system I don't use it. I press the button to disengage as soon as I start the car. Hate it.

To @BobH38 - I permanently disabled my "Start/Stop"-System with "VCDS" by the "Voltage Method".

Update: new battery fitted. Local garage quoted over £250 and could not say when would be available. He suggested I go to Dealer so I did. Had to pay for battery to place the order. There is a shortage of batteries. On back order with factory in Ckeck Republic. Had to wait over 2 weeks.

Wonder if the car will start after three days. For £249 I hope so.

I am puzzled. Just been out to look at the battery. I always thought that red wires were attached to the terminal next to the + sign and blue wires to the - sign. But my battery is wired up with the blue wires next to the + sign. They've even moved the flappy cover from its old location to cover the blue wires. Fair enough.

Can anyone please offer advice.

Not AGM - EFB was/is fitted on my stop start. Original was a Moll and the replacement is YUASA 7000 EFB range. Saying that mine is also a tiddly 1.4tsi so probably has a smaller battery. Came with a 4 year guarantee - all in £99.84.

Car has not bleated since even if left for many days and love it or hate it stop/start works a treat. Myself I don't mind it as except for a whir of a starter motor you don't really notice it.
