Central locking

Featured Replies

Good afternoon, I have a 2019 Karoq from new. In that last two weeks it has locked me in the car three times. I have turned off the engine, locked and unlocked it with both the key and the button on the dashboard. The only way to unlock the drive side door is for me to open the window and unlock/open the door from outside using the handle. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you in advance.

Hi, and welcome.  Have you contacted your dealer?  They're all still open for servicing (and MOTs, not that you need one yet). Your car will still be under warranty.

Thank you, yes I did contact them but this is only happens very occasionally so they will not be able to see the problem occurring. I asked them to see if anyone else had reported a similar experience but the lady on the service desk said she did not know and was not about to go and ask a service engineer. That's why I put a post on here to see if anyone else has heard of this problem. It may just be down to the really cold weather recently.

It’s maybe the kessy system I’ve been having trouble with mine doors locking and unlocking key not being recognized on the dashboard I’ve even been locked out of the car twice with the key still in the car as it had fallen out of my pocket mine has been back with the dealer they said it was the batteries in the fob but they changed them and it still happened they changed some electronic board and second time out in the car it happened again so the car is back with them now for a third time

If your having to open the door from the outside, either your interior handle is faulty, but you would expect this not just to happen occasionally, or somehow you are activating the deadlock, which deactivates the interior door handles.

Are you saying every time you stop the car you are pushing the lock/ unlock buttons?

The problem has only occurred three times in the past two weeks and I drive the car twice a day. It only happens to the drive side door and so cannot be the whole of the internal locking system that is at fault. I only pushed the lock/unlock button when I could not open it from inside on those three occasions but it didn't work, normally the door just opens when I pull the handle to open it.

Three times is three time too often in a car this new.

Are the door lock and striker plate on the B pillar aligned correctly, in the outside chance there's a new fault there, stopping the door lock catching properly?  It'd only take a few mm to cause a knock-on electrical problem.  But I think it's the actual door electronics at fault rather than a mechanical cause.

Meanwhile I'd make a note - but you probably are already - of when it happens.  A return trip to the dealer might be called for.  You could argue it's a safety issue, being trapped inside the car if there was an accident.  Good luck anyway.

That is a good suggestion, I will check it as in truth I did have to yank the door open a few times as it was frozen. Didn't open and I had to climb over from the passenger side which had melted more in the sun. I have maybe moved it out of alignment, don't know my own strength!

Thank you for your help.
