Want to buy Superb Mk1

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! Im doing some research as I want to get my very first car, and since I love big sedans and reliability, plus since I live in the Czech Republic, I thought of buying a Skoda!

Specifically Im looking for the Superb Mk1 1.9TDI. Now, im not sure exactly what I should be looking at.

Im also looking into the Octavia series, but again so many options, I am completely lost..

It comes in many different varieties, and I have read to avoid the 2.0TDI and 2.5V6 like the plague.

The sites Im looking into are www.aaaauto.cz and www.autoesa.cz

If Im not allowed to post links to other websites, i will remove them.

Let me know what I should look at prior of going there and potentially buying a lemon!

Many thanks in advance! :)

Hi @JCV13, there's plenty of advice in the MK1 Superb section. I don't think you can go wrong with the PD engines, with regular maintenance they will go on forever! These usual come very well spec'd, including heated seats, maxidot, cruise control and parking sensors. So make sure everything works and it's got a good service history.

Hey @DeanVRS20VTThanks for your comment!

I have gone through the whole section of the Suberb Mk1, read all about the Water ingress issues and what not.

However I still am in between the 1.9TDI and the 2.5 V6 TDI, some people are supporting the one, some the other.. I guess I just have to find the one right??

But definitely go away from the 2.0 TDI?

I’ve heard to stay away from the 2.5 V6 and the 2.0. I haven’t any experience in these engine so I can only go by what others are saying but I know the 1.9TDi PD engines are fantastic. I have a PD130 MK1 Estate for work and they’re quite fast for what they are.

IIRC the early 2.0TDI had a weakness with the drive to the oil pump, sorted eventually.

Ticking time bomb and a complete lemon of an engine.

My 2.5 V6TDI was fabulous, although there are horror stories about the cost of a failed VP44 pump.

Anecdotal comments that on the 1.9PD that the 5 speed gearbox is more reliable than the 6 speed.

Hey @Gaz_ ! Thank you for your comment.. Yeah Im avoiding the 2.0TDI.

Right now Im looking into a 1.9TDI but it looks like it has rust, and another 2.5TDI V6 that looks to be in better nick.. its the 120KW BDG Version..

I will post updates once I go and see them up close... Stay Tuned!

I had an Audi A4 Sport with the 130PS 1.9PD and the 6 speed gearbox - I had it mapped to 180PS and never had any problem with the gearbox.
