Superb Estate tow bar required

Featured Replies

Hi all

Does anyone have any pointers regarding getting an aftermarket detachable tow bar fitted for a MY20 Superb Sportline Estate? I need 7 pin single electrics.

PF Jones appeared to quote £653 inc for a Westfalia with mobile fitting, Towsure £628 for their offering fitted.

Any recommendations for other suppliers to try?

Mobile fitting is easiest but happy to take it to a workshop if the price justifies it.

thanks

All I can say is that I have the Westfalia bar with 7 pin and dedicated electrics. Was about £600 fitted. Good solid bar and that seems to be about the price of them.

I have a westfalia detachable, (completely hidden when removed, as the wiring pivots out of sight, mine is with full 13pin electrics and use a 13 to 12N/S adapter to use anything on old electrics. About £800 fitted including 2 good quality adapters, one adapter is 13pin to 12N and 12S for older caravans, the other just 12N for a bike carrier/luggage trailer.

I had a removable Tow-Trust fitted last June after buying the car, I was a bit apprehensive as normally have Westfalia but because of the lockdown suppliers I rang could only get a Tow-Trust as they're a British make, has nothing to worry about as its a good bit of kit. Had dedicated 13pin electrics as well as tow a caravan.

Also if its fitted correctly there should be some coding done to tell the car a towbar has been fitted. When a trailer or caravan is hitched and the electrics connected the car should show a trailer graphic on the touch screen, a trailer light failure indicator on the dash, turn of the parking sensors and reverse light on the car and I'm lead to believe how the DSG gearbox changes gear due to the extra weight as well as other engine and alternator settings but not sure if that's completely correct. Either way you must make sure the coding is done.
