Job

Price

  Oil and inspection service   £185
  Extended scope   £60
  Pollen filter   £35
  Air filter   £45
  Diesel fuel filter   £70
  4x4 Oil Change   £85
  Spark Plugs   £105
  MOT   £45

Welcome.

Ask the Dealership Service Staff or Service Desk Manager what they are going to be doing for the money they are quoting.

?

What was done on year 1 if the car was on Fixed Servicing?

?

What was done in Year 2, 18,000-20,000 miles was a 'Major Service' as they called them in 2019?

The Pollen Filter change should have been done then.

That 2 year service would have been the same as the 1st year service other than the Pollen Filter being the extra thing done.

Skoda do not show what a Major Service is now because they stopped calling them Major Services at the first 2 years and the next 2 years.

They went to the Oil & Inspection Service & each 3 years the 'Extended Scope'.

No Diesel Filter to change on a TSI.

Brake Fluid change is at 3 year and then each 2.

There is the DSG Oil Service due at 40,000 miles.    So nearly due.

Spark Plugs could be at 40,000 miles, so nearly due.

The 4x4 Oil Change needs to have the Screen / Filter cleaned, be sure that is getting done.  Done properly might be more than £85.

This is worth looking at regarding your 4 x 4 oil change, as the dealers purely drain the oil out your Haldex unit and refill, they dont remove the pump and clean everything up as shown here. Worth a look.

As Root says above, you really need to ask the garage for a breakdown of the work they intend to carry out. There's a mixture of 'service' items and 'maintenance' items in your list. Maintenance is only recommended or 'optional' if you like.  If I were a betting man, I'd say Citygate may be using 'major' as a lazy way to describe the work they'll carry out on your car but best to check.

If they're using  'major' service in it's traditional sense, then that doesn't sound right.  Firstly you have to determine what service regime you're on.

1: Variable can be thought of as up to a maximum of every 20k miles or 2yr, whichever comes first so sounds like your car isn't on that program.

2: People will use all different terms to describe the fixed service regime but basically it goes minor, major, minor major etc. Intervals are every year or 10k, which ever comes first. Sounds like your car is on that program.

So even in old money, why they're quoting a 'major' service is confusing ( to me at least ).

What work would I expect on a car given your age / mileage?  At the very least I'd expect a minor service + 3yr options.

A minor service is visual inspections ( and topping up if necessary ) + oil and filter change.  The 3yr options are MOT + 4x4 oil change.  If it wasn't done last year then I'd also have a brake fluid change.  Would that lot cost £377 at London prices?

The spark plugs and DSG fluid change are recommended at 4yr or 40k. If it was my car on fixed intervals with 37K mileage then personally I'd wait until service next year before having those done. Others may advise differently.

So in summary, if Citygate is quoting £377 for the work required then that sounds about right. If they're simply quoting £377 for a major service in it's traditional sense, that sounds crap.
