My sons Furbie VRs with 8,000 miles on the clock had the service warning come up on the dash yesterday (I suppose it is now a year old) but within an hour of him saying about it my Superb 1.9pd130 didn't want to feel left out and did the same at 15,000 miles (variable service) very handy , the insurance is due as well, we go on holiday soon and fuel prices are on the up...........

I think I am going back to bed and stay there.......it might be cheaper:rolleyes:

Don't forget to turn off the gas & electrical appliances as those are on the increase too :P ;)

You're not the only one though who feels like that. Slow puncture in one of the two good tyres. Swapped front <-> rear sets and got the slow puncture repaired. Fortunate that was possible at least. Then got told the two we just swapped to the rear were on the 1.6mm limit (right on the markers).

So that's two new tyres on order now from my 'local' at near enough 200 quid inc fitting etc. Post-ordering I then found the tyres I've ordered are rubbish in snow/ice, unlike the Sport Contact IIs, so I'm gonna have to find myself some wheels soon :( Grrin :D

You should have a couple of kids off to University this year, that's a bundle of laughs. :(

This has all put a bit of a dent in my wheel spin fund.

I didn't know there were mini Des's flying about as well :D

Having seen that RR video of yours you should at the very least 'fatten them up' so they can help keep the wheels down ;)

My SWMBO is planning to get a few mini-me's out of me/her as well, so far no 'success' there but with luck one day :)

how is your children going to uni affecting you?

they get a loan to pay for it surely?

thats what I did. It makes them go to uni for each lecture because they are paying for it.

I met a lot of "Daddy is paying for it" students and they always seem so unenthusiatic to go to uni when the going gets tough.

I save you a bob or two.... tell em to pay thier way in life....it will help in the long run

as for motoring in general...it's a costly game but we have a choice!

more fool you! get your sons/daughters to get a loan. it's not like they HAVE to pay it back.

too many spoilt kids! lol

I think it's only right having them to pay anyway. It's thier education not yours.

I suppose it's a reflection on how parents have brought their kids up! ;)

I had a part time job and bought a Clio 1.2 16v brand new and aslo paid my tuition fees! I was only on £4.25 at the time. I didn't have to borrow of my parents.

Although I did stay at home which is the smartest move I made! Coming out of uni with £20 grand worth of debt is not good!

You didn't have to borrow off your parents, but you stayed living at home?

Chris

is it that difficult?

the point is it sounds like he may need to give up something to run his car.Either that or down grade the car? not sure what he has.

I stayed at home cos I didnt want to get into debt.

fair enough maybe the money I spent on my car was a similar amount to a months rent...actually maybe less, but I worked it all out before I went to uni and realised staying at home was the most feasable way to do it.

I stayed at home cos I didnt want to get into debt.

May not be an option for some people purely to do the course or to go to a high standard university.

It is entirely up to people what they do with their money, besides which his kids will have an extra £2000 of tuition fees to pay, plus no doubt accomodation of £2000 plus, an extra £4000 at least on top of what you paid.

is it that difficult?

We're not all as super-intelligent as you, mate ;)

I stayed at home cos I didnt want to get into debt.

So how is that any different to someone giving their kids the money to go to Uni? The outcome is the same, except the kids go to Uni, learn how to live independently and also mature as people ;)

My kids will not be getting the option to stay at home

Chris

As much as it pains me Chris does have a valid point. Some kids that get it all paid for my mum and dad do drop out when it gets hard.

But some dont! Des, if you want to give them a helping hand good on you! more important things in life than cars.........so I've been told!

I've not long come out of Uni, my mum paid for tuition but I had to pay my own way to live while I was there. If it wasn't for my mum I never would of had the chance to go. A student loan does not cover everything as I found out. In the 2nd year and after costs rise with private renting, food bills, gas, electric etc. It was however the best thing I've ever done just for the experience. I never completed my course because I felt it wasn't for me. I used to be into computing in a big way but there's always something you don't like. The reason I went to uni wasn't so much for the education it was to help me find out what it was I wanted to do. I have been lucky though and have still got a good job as I found an employer who respected the choices I've made and offered me a better job than I intially went in for. I'd recommend uni to anyone, opens you up to the world and what it's like to support yourself.

While at uni I had a part time job so I could pay for things I wanted and managed my money well enough to only use the loan for living costs. Not everyone is the same though and I had friends who took out multiple overdrafts and credit cards and were in debt by £12k by the end of the first year. It's not for everyone. I also managed to run a car, which changed 3 times while at uni from a Fiesta Si - Clio 16v - my current Furby vRS. It is possible to have a nice car and go to uni if you're sensible.

Just a students point of view. I think Delcac is right to support his kids and as I said it wouldn't have been possible without my parents.
