But it was possible for me without my parents!

I am just jealous as I had to pay my own way....which again made me look back and think how well I did and to come out with a 1st even better!

My point was looking at a different view to how you all percieve it thats all... no grudge.

If you can afford to pay for your children fair enough just don't moan about it as it's a benefit to your kids.

I saw many parent funded students go well off the rails at uni and dropped out! where as all the self funded ones seemed to do far better in the course as it is was their own money they were using for fees. What I would say is...... If I had offsring who went to uni(dont want to happen!) if I could i'd pay for accomodation and bills thats all. I would get them to pay the fees because then it's there money they waste if they drop out or have to re-take a year!

as for the student life....well overated......but an experience I lost! never mind I still enjoyed it living at home and now no debts!

We're not all as super-intelligent as you' date=' mate ;)

So how is that any different to someone giving their kids the money to go to Uni? The outcome is the same, except the kids go to Uni, learn how to live independently and also mature as people ;)

My kids will not be getting the option to stay at home

it costs 5 times as much to send a child off to uni as it does to have them stay at home!

thats my point.:)

IMHO education should be free - what the hell do we pay tax for? Why can the bloke next door watch Deal or no Deal all day and get everything for free and I have to pay a bloody fortune to educate myself, to earn more, to pay more tax! Since I graduated (paid for by me!) the government has had so much more money back than it would have cost them anyway - pricing people out of education is short sighted

Granted there are certain courses I wouldn't offer for free and I'm sure we all have opinions on what they shoud be. ;)

Bloody dole scroungers is their number one priority!

They take so much and continually take more and more to spend on people and institutions that don't deserve it.

All politicians are thieving, self-serving *******!

Rant over. Sorry :D

but if your home is 250 miles away from uni...it doenst work does it bud! theres no choice unless i choose to live in a cardboard box on the street?!

But this is my point - it wasn't possible without your parents as they put you up so you could go out and buy a luxury item (a car!). I was lucky and my parents covered my accommodation and bills for my first 2 years of Uni. I then had to fend for myself for the last two years. Very chuffed that I managed to get out without any debt (thank god it was

You don't need a car for Uni, although if you do you could make some money taxi'ing people around ;)
