Cr 170 TDI swirl flap delete kit

Featured Replies

Hi, any help with this is much appreciated, I've recently had my mk 2 vrs cega engined cr170 to local Skoda dealers as I have an intermittent engine management light coming on, the dealer has confirmed the dreaded swirl valve fault code and  is wanting to strip the wiring from the swirl valve motor to the ECU to rule out bad wiring at a cost of £240!! The cars done 74,000 miles, they tested the swirl flap runner motor and is working and getting 5v to it as it should, I've a strong suspicion the swirl flaps are starting to stick in the manifold hence the intermittent fault!! I know there's a swirl flap delete kit available, is there anybody on here who has had the swirl flap delete done? And also how has the car been since having it done? Thanks again for any info on this👍🏻

I read that the problem could be wear on the mechanical linkage between the motor and the flap, after switching off the engine the motor cycles and because of the wear it (the motor)moves more than what it should......and so it brings on the EML when next started.

Darkside Developments do a kit which fixes that.  https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/2-0-tdi-common-rail-swirl-flap-repair-kit-p2015-fault-aluminum-manifolds.html

They also do a delete kit.  https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/1-6-2-0-tdi-common-rail-swirl-flap-delete-kit.html

In that case, I'd suggest having them removed completely.  They are prone to breaking up and then being ingested into the engine with dire results.  I had the inlet manifold on my PD170 Golf replaced with a BKD one at c. 65K miles.  No fault codes but the flaps were already stuck and breaking up.

I'm not so sure they are stuck, I think it's the linkage from motor to the flaps, so surley they will just sit closed once switched off?

When inspected by the dealer they said every think was working fine!!

I'd hope they'd be open when they're mapped out.  I'd want to make sure that they're intact.

Yeah defo m8, they need to be open don't they haha👍🏻👍🏻 will speak to them about full delete kit as would be preferred but the two tuners I've spoke to both said they have left them in and had no problems, (I know they all say that)😂  how much did bkd manifold end up costing, trying to avoid full replacement tbh but if it saves the engine either or is Guna need to be done👍🏻

Thanks again for the info👍🏻

My alloy manifold was a BKD one but that was for the earlier PD engine.   However, have a look at the link I posted above for the Darkside flap delete kit for your engine.
