Collective Action Octavia First Edition

Featured Replies

As many readers know there are some big issues with the First Edition and Skoda UK seem in no rush to solve our issues. Perhaps the key issue is the fact that our cars are not compliant with with law because of the MPH/KPH Issue.

A number if us have pushed our dealers and it seems they can do nothing, it needs a new hardware unit to solve. Skoda know this but seem in no rush to help us.

Again, a number off unhappy owners have contacted the Honest John in the hope of putting some pressure on in terms of getting help from a review site. We could do with as many First Edition Owners as possible to contact HJ  via email to explain your issues. He appears to be collecting our issues and is in contact to Skoda' head of PR.

So please, if you are unhappy with the issues, please send an email to HJ ASAP and help us put pressure on Skoda UK.

I know at least two members on this site have got so sick of the car that they have now part exchanged in annoyance. Perhaps they could take the time to email as well to help those of us that are hanging on in the hope Skoda will be stirred into action?

Thanks for reading

I think it's important that they are forced to do something about this.

I've formally rejected my SEL FE and they've accepted in principle. Now I just have to wait while everyone at Skoda and VWFS talk to each other so that I can get rid of it. It's a shame as I've owned Skodas without issue since 2007.

Your contract is with the dealer, (not Skoda), you might also have a contract/agreement with VWFS.

The dealer will have a commercial contract with Skoda, this is irrelevant to your contract with dealer, and they are trying it on if they say your rejection with them can only be done once they have talked to Skoda.  How the dealer gets refunded is not your problem.

You are exactly right, the more owners who continue to pressure Skoda the more likely we are collectively going to get a satisfactory resolution.  This is a numbers game otherwise we get 'Walked Over' and they get to keep our hard earned money.

I've sent an email, only had the car 2 weeks and have twice had the touchscreen, emergency brake assist and manoeuvre assist not working issue.

My main concern is the emergency brake assist not working could cost me my life if I'm involved in an accident.

Do you have the MPH/KPH Issue as well?

I have the SE First Edition which doesn't have built in navigation.

No, the car is on lease and came from a dealership in Rochdale.

Can you change the units on the dash speedo from mph to kph?

If you can tell me how to check this I will try it.

I have had an email from HJ asking for more details about me and my car etc. I have sent the additional details and he is now going to submit all of our complaints to Skoda.

If you press `settings then go to units, you should see an option to select speed in either mph or kph

Dies it actually change? I think we all have the option, but ours will not change to KPH on the main dash

I sent my details off to HJ a few days ago but not had a response.  Hopefully it’s been added to the list going off to Skoda.

Two quick questions for you folk (you have my sympathy for all of your troubles).

1. Is there a Tourist Mode on the car which deals with speeds/distances?

2. If you're getting nowhere have you considered bringing the media in on this, things like BBC Watchdog, AutoExpress, Autocar et al?

If you can get them on board, the adverse publicity, may and I only say may, give Skoda and VW Group a hefty kick up the corporate jacksie and get thing's sorted as a matter of urgency, as it will affect already depleted sales.

The only reason I'm saying this is because a Class Action can be very expensive, not only to initiate, but to carry through and should it fail, you could be liable for large amounts of money in legal fees.

I don't think anyone is talking about class action, only collective action. i.e. Acting together to show any press / PR that we speak to that this isn't an isolated problem in the hope the Skoda / VW get a good kick up the jacksie :)

If matters are Safety Related or Safety Critical you contact the DVSA.

As for the UK and Class Actions well we know how that affects the VW Group.  Not one little bits, their sales increase.

As for BBC Watchdog, Autocar, Auto Express, Which  with things like Excessive Oil use of 1.8 / 2.0 TSI's with Audi / VW /SEAT or Skoda, then that is a joke.

I don't think class action is what is being suggested here. However, our cars are in contravention of the law. That is blatantly obvious. The motor ombudsman would be the next obviously place to go if HJ gets knowwhere. I have written to Whatcar, AutoExpress etc and had no replay. I will do so again. I am also planning to send a letter to the head of PR and the Head of Skoda UK (for whatever use that will do).

It seems madness that a car that is in contravention of the law are being sold and not sorted. Surely, there can be arguing with this from Skoda.

Is it worth sending off again? He may well have collated your points, but odd not to reply?

Thanks for contacting him.

Hi all,

Fellow 1.5 FE owner.

I've added this in the KPH thread, but wanted to add my voice here to say HJ has my details to add to the communication going to Skoda.

I am also going to book in with the dealer, to at least give them the chance to say they can't find an issue and cannot fix it! I'm prepared to go down the route of requesting it be rejected if it comes to it, but it is a fab car beyond the infotainment issues so my preference is a fix to be honest.

I would also ask people with even the slightest issue raise it with HJ though. It has taken my three months of ownership to really establish the catalogue of ridiculous issues and that they are neither going away by themselves, but neither do I have the will to have to go through the farce of doing resets and engine switch-offs etc every third time I fire the engine up and something goes wrong on the screen.

Hi.  I've contacted a friend at Which! and he is going to pass on the list of issues many first edition owners have faced.  I'll see if this gains any traction with them and feedback.
