It might help if you install the latest English version of VCDS and post an autoscan :)

I found that on ross tech, but that could be for any part of the cars' electrics

It is this fault that I have 0769 analog measuring input

It comes from module 19 CAN Gateway. Look at the module connector and see if it is either not connected up correctly or there is possible corrosion...

Not sure its as easy as they make it out to be Langers.

When I was buying VCDS the French seller was more a lot more expensive, had a high delivery charge and seemed not at all interested in a new customer, par for the course I'm afraid. Gendan in the UK was very different, I bought from them on the understanding that I would be able to download the software in both French and English and use either of them with the dongle I bought from them.

I installed the English program and when I tried to download the French one I was not able to, Rosstech confirmed this was the case but I can't recall the exact details of why.

Unless you know different of course as I would really like the French version so I dont have to translate for people whose cars I scan .

Any genuine interface should work perfectly with the English version of VCDS which is freely available from Rosstech: https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.php

However, the non-English VCDS versions are translated by distributors so they only work with a interface purchased from that distributor. If you contact the French distributor, they may sell you a licence but I've no idea of the cost...

In your case, you were misled but the OP can install the English version alongside French one they already have :)

ALL versions of Ross-Tech cables are licensed for the English version of VCDS, but to use a non-English version of VCDS you must buy the cable from the distributor in the relevant country.

So if you buy the cable from the French distributor you can install and use both French and English VCDS, but if you buy the cable from e.g. the UK distributor or Ross-Tech direct then it's only licensed for the English VCDS.

Thanks to you both, I had forgotten the details but knew I had been mislead.

The translations to English of the German codes and parameters are bad enough, add in another translation and it would be probably be gibberish. In fact no probably about it having looked at the two above so I am glad that I have the English version.

Its as meaningless in English as it is in the French translation, welcome to the world of VCDS

In as many cases as possible the VCDS guys use the message from the VAG module (translating if necessary) so I think the finger for this piece of gibberish most likely should be pointed at the VAG software guys.

I doubt that the German code & parameter descriptions in their own language are meaningless, they have always struck me as being very correct in everything that they do, the problem with translations to another language is that its rarely a technical person doing it and even more rarely one working in that field that understands what the term is and can find a way of expressing it in the required language which they should be a native speaker of but often aren't.

An example in the above fault codes is someone has correctly translated the German text to "Tested since memory clear" although without knowing the original text it might better be expressed as "fault still present after code memory cleared" as the French translation "Confirmé, testé depuis RàZ memoire" aside from RàZ being gibberish appears to indicate, RàZ possibly being "erased".

I have seen much much worse, "Needle sweep" for instance is shown as "indicator celebration"!
